TN Paramedic License Suspended for Ignoring Man's Complaint of Pain

Health officials said the patient complained of pain in his lower back, and paramedics ignored him. This situation happened in April 2019 when Jeffrey Bates was at the site of a man fleeing arrest, being pursued and verbally abused. According to the documents, the man said he injured his lower back during his arrest. The man continued complaining of pain in his lower back, but Bates claimed he was uninjured and ignored him. The man was taken to prison by his EPD officers, where he remained sick for several hours. When police took the man to the hospital, it was determined that he had broken his hip and needed surgery. Because of the incident, Bates' paramedic license was suspended for 60 days, followed by three years of probation starting in March 2023. The documents said Bates must also complete his four-hour ethics course. May this serve as a lesson. Read more.
