Maringá-PR, Brazil
November 24th to 28th, 2025
State University of Maringá
In addition to celebrating Professor Luiz San Martin’s 70th birthday, this congress also marks the occasion of his recent designation as Doctor Honoris Causa by State University of Maringá (UEM). This honor, UEM’s highest academic distinction, is awarded to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to knowledge, scientific research, literature, the arts, or cross-cultural understanding. Over its 55-year history, UEM has awarded this title to only eight individuals, underscoring its rarity and profound significance.
During the congress, we will have the privilege of hosting the formal ceremony to confer this honor upon Professor San Martin, a momentous occasion to celebrate his enduring legacy and extraordinary contributions to academia and society.
In 2006, San Martin coordinated the creation of the LACLTG — Latin American Conference on Lie Theory and Geometry — which was first held in Campinas. Subsequent editions took place in La Falda, Argentina (2008), Bogotá, Colombia (2010), Guanajuato, Mexico (2012), Petrolina and Juazeiro (2014), and Antofagasta, Chile (2016). In 2010, he proposed the creation of the SWLT — School and Workshop on Lie Theory. The first edition was held at UNICAMP in 2010, followed by UEM in 2012 and UFU in 2014. The fourth edition took place in 2015 at UNICAMP and was dedicated to Professor Luiz A. B. San Martin in celebration of his 60th birthday. In 2017, the LACLTG was incorporated into the SWLT. That same year, the fifth edition was held at UNESP in Presidente Prudente. The sixth edition took place at UnB in 2019, and the seventh, organized by UFJF, was conducted online due to the pandemic. The eighth edition was hosted in 2023 by the State University of Maringá (UEM).
The ninth edition will once again be held in Maringá, in honor of Professor Luiz A. B. San Martin, who turns seventy and will be awarded by UEM for his outstanding contributions to science, literature, the arts, and the promotion of cultural understanding — as well as for his significant impact on DMA-UEM and the Postgraduate Program in Mathematics.
This biennial international event, the SWLT, is a prominent Latin American congress. It aims to foster collaboration between national and international researchers, promote the dissemination of Lie theory, encourage the participation of young scholars and women in the field, diversify research efforts, and increase engagement among undergraduate students. Its format includes mini-courses, dedicated sessions for young researchers, and a strong focus on inclusion, thereby enhancing its academic impact.
