Lie groupoid week in Coimbra

September 26 - 30, 2022

Mini-school on two modern aspects of the geometry and applications of Lie groupoids

This mini school will contain two courses, aiming to introduce some modern aspects of the geometry and applications of Lie groupoids. The goal is to have a leisurely schedule, allowing plenty of time for informal discussions.

It is geared toward PhD students, and other researchers interested in the topic, but previous exposure to Lie groupoids will not be assumed. The first day will contain a small crash-course on Lie groupoids, to introduce definitions, examples, and ideas used in the courses.

Courses

The goal of the minicourse is to explain how Lie groupoids provide an effective language for modern formulations of pseudo-differential calculi. The goal will be to explain the PDO calculus construction by Debord-Skandalis that was improved by Van Erp-Yuncken. As an application, we will see the proof of the classical Hodge theorem.

In this minicourse we will discuss deformations of Lie groupoids and the cohomology which controls them. We will study properties of this cohomology, see the relation to deformation cohomologies for classical examples, such as Lie group actions and foliations, as well as different models for the cohomology, using representations up to homotopy, and VB-groupoids. We will then use it to prove rigidity and normal form results for compact and for proper Lie groupoids.

  • Crash-course on Lie groupoids and Lie algebroids (September 26, duration of 3 hours)

Introducing definitions, examples and some basic ideas useful for the two courses.
