License Plate Safari
Effective date: June 28, 2026
Last updated: July 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the License Plate Safari mobile application ("the App", "we", "us") handles information. The App is a "collect-them-all" game for spotting U.S. license plates. We aim to collect as little as possible. Please read this policy carefully; by using the App you agree to the practices described here.
You do not create an account or give us your name or email to use the App.
Your spotting progress and badges are stored only on your device.
We use Google Analytics to understand how the App is used, via a random, app-generated identifier that is not linked to your real identity.
If — and only if — you use the optional "Submit a Plate" feature, the photo and details you choose to send are uploaded to our service providers so we can review them.
We do not collect your precise location, your contacts, or any financial information, and we do not sell your personal information.
Your plate-spotting progress, collected plates, and earned badges are saved locally on your device. This information is not transmitted to us and is removed if you uninstall the App.
The App includes an optional feature that lets you submit a license plate. This runs only when you actively choose to submit. When you do, the following is sent:
A photo you take or select. The photo is uploaded to our image-hosting provider (ImgBB), which returns a publicly accessible image link. Please avoid including people, faces, or other personal details in the photo.
The U.S. state you select for the plate.
Notes — any free-text you choose to type. Please do not include personal or sensitive information in this field.
A timestamp of when the submission was made.
This information is stored in a database (Airtable) so we can review submissions. If you do not use the Submit a Plate feature, none of this is collected.
We use Google Analytics for Firebase / Google Analytics 4 to understand how the App is used and to improve it. This includes:
A randomly generated identifier created on first launch and stored on your device. It is not your name, email, or advertising ID, and is not used to identify you personally.
App interaction events — for example, opening a state, spotting a plate, or earning a badge — along with a session identifier and engagement time.
Technical information such as general device type and app version, and an approximate, city-level location that the App, using a third-party IP-geolocation service, derives from the network (IP) address. We do not collect GPS or precise location.
Analytics events are first stored in a queue on your device (so the App works offline in a moving car) and are sent over an encrypted connection when the device reconnects.
To operate and improve the App and its features.
To understand which features and plates are popular (aggregate, anonymous usage trends).
To review and process license-plate submissions you choose to send.
To diagnose problems and maintain the security and reliability of the App.
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the service providers that make the App work:

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and the safety of users.
On-device data (progress, badges) stays until you clear it or uninstall the App.
Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' retention settings and is used in aggregate.
Submitted plates (photo, state, notes, timestamp) are retained so we can review them; you may request deletion using the contact details below.
Internet — to send analytics and, if you submit a plate, to upload it.
Camera / Photos — requested only at the moment you choose to add a photo for "Submit a Plate". The App does not access your camera or photo library otherwise.
The App is family-friendly and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The only user-provided content is the optional Submit-a-Plate feature, which should not include personal information. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
You can stop all data collection at any time by not using the Submit-a-Plate feature and by uninstalling the App.
You may request that we delete a plate submission you sent, by contacting us.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete information about you. To exercise them, contact us at the address below.
Information transmitted by the App is sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect information.
The App and its service providers may process and store information in the United States and other countries. By using the App, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in these locations.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and post the new version at this URL. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or wish to request deletion of a submission, contact:
