Between chatting with patrons on the Digital Bookmobile, assisting our technical support team while off the road, and being active in many online book communities, I spend a lot of time clarifying some common misconceptions about the Libby app. Although Libby is designed to have an easy-to-use interface, some of the intricacies of digital lending can be confusing.
What I recommend when a user wishes to both read and listen to a title is to borrow the title in both formats at once. Keep in mind that because they are two separate books, you will need to manually keep track of where you left off in each format when you make the switch from one to the other. It takes a bit of patience (Deliver Later will become a feature you rely on heavily), but I have known a few people that find it totally worth it. If you are really into workarounds, you could borrow the title in both formats and use two separate devices (or open the app and libbyapp.com in a web browser on the same device) to read and listen at the same time.
In general, if you are inquiring about something that is specific to your library (i.e. What is my library card number or PIN?), contacting the library directly by phone or through their website will be your best bet. Despite many libraries being closed physically, many are still responding to their communications.
On the other hand, if you have a question regarding the app (i.e. How do I cancel a hold in Libby?) or you are in need of troubleshooting assistance, then our technical support team at OverDrive are the Libby experts you need. They can be contacted directly through the Libby App.
I'm having the same issue. There's no way to bookmark where you left off on library audio books. Please add this feature as it's greatly needed. I miss parts of each book because I constantly have to guess where I was with the slider.
Steps: Play the audio book through Libby, on an AirPlay device, as usual. I use an iPad. Swipe down and leftish from top right of screen, select AirPlay (triangle with lines above). My networked airplay Sonos speakers are available. Select at least one.
Beginning October 2022, the UMN Libraries has new ways to read ebooks and listen to audiobooks. Overdrive is the "platform" or service but most users read or listen to the content through the Libby app, designed to make reading/listening/watching easy on your phone, Kindle, laptop, or other device. 1. Download titles from Overdrive to Kindle
You can borrow Kindle Books from the UMN Libraries OverDrive website, then read them on Kindle devices or Kindle reading apps. Learn more on how to set this up.
UMN students can sign up for a library card from Hennepin County Library (Minneapolis campus) or Ramsey County Library (St. Paul campus) or other public libraries. Libraries in the metro area are part of MELSA (the eight member library systems are the counties of Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, and Washington, along with the St. Paul Public Library). After you sign up, you can access more ebooks using the MELSA Overdrive at For example, the MELSA Overdrive account has 170,000 ebooks, 32,000 audiobooks and 3,500 magazines). You can use the MELSA and the UMN Overdrive accounts with each other.

Libby is an innovative in-browser and mobile app from OverDrive designed to make borrowing and enjoying e-books, magazines, streaming services and audiobooks from the library easier than ever. Libby is available on your browser and for Android and iOS devices.
The OverDrive app was discontinued in May 2023. The OverDrive desktop interface is still available. You may continue to use this interface to browse and check out, place holds, manage your account, and download mp3 audio files. Suggestions for purchase must now be made in Libby using the "Notify Me" function.

When listening in your car, Libby works with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. You can also listen through your car speakers via Bluetooth, USB, auxiliary cable, those things that plug into your tape deck or any other means of playing audio from your mobile device.
The largest buttons are the ones I use the most. Next to the play/pause button are buttons to skip forwards or backwards 15 seconds. I use this all the time for moving around within a small section of a book.
To navigate a title on a larger scale, you can jump to specific chapters. You can tap the chapter name to view the table of contents; from there you can tap a chapter to jump to that location. You can also tap the numbers to the right or left of the chapter name to skip to the next chapter or the beginning of a chapter, respectively.
If you tend to move around to different spots in a book, jumping to a recent place can be incredibly useful. By tapping the button in the bottom left corner, you can return to your most recent location. The button in the bottom right corner will pop up a list of your recent places that you can tap to jump to.
You can add a bookmark by tapping the bookmark icon at the top of the audiobook player, or tap and hold the bookmark icon to add a highlight (release the button to finish highlighting). Tap a bookmark or highlight to jump to that location. After tapping a bookmark or highlight, you can optionally tap the bookmark icon again to add a note to the bookmark or highlight or delete it. 152ee80cbc
