I'm going through the service menu of the 27GR95QE to see what options are available to the user to tinker with. I'll be testing them out throughout the day and update my post with the results. Feel free to ask questions or help me explain any of the jargon in the menu!

Note: Unfortunately, doing an image clean or turning off the monitor for any reason results in the settings in the debug menu to reset. Therefore, unless I can't find a way to save the settings, you'd have to access the service menu every four hours :/.

This disables the vignette effect of the monitor in both SDR and HDR modes. Measuring with a colorimeter, I noticed an increase of brightness of 15% at the sides of the monitor compared to the 220nits I was getting at the center of the screen and an increase of 30% at the corners. It does not affect ABL compared to standard behaviour. It will not fix peak brightness, but will increase uniform brightness across the screen and make it consistent. Unless there is a ulterior issue, other than potentially increased power consumption, I have no idea why this is enabled by default. Turning it off fixed my complaints about the monitor being slightly dark for my taste. I'll be testing it for a few days to see what happens, but if nothing bad arises, then the cost of buying a service remote for $20 CAD would have been worth it alone.

The Services menu (or simply Services) is a user interface element in macOS. The services are programs that accept input from the user selection, process it, and optionally put the result back in the clipboard. The concept originated in the NeXTSTEP operating system, from which it was carried over into macOS and GNUstep. Similar features can be emulated on other operating systems.

Apple advertises the Services menu in connection with other features of its operating system. For example, it's possible to desktop search for a piece of text by selecting it with the mouse and using the service from Spotlight. Other central services are Grab for taking screenshots, and the system spell checker. The concept is similar to a GUI equivalent of a Unix pipe, allowing arbitrary data to be processed and passed between programs.

Services can be implemented as application services, which expose a portion of the functionality of an application to operate on selected data, usually without displaying an interface. In its developer documentation, Apple recommends that applications use services to provide features that are "generally useful", giving as an example a Usenet client providing ROT13 encryption as a service.[1] Standalone services may also be created without a host application. Their simple, one-purpose nature and the fact that they don't require a GUI to be designed makes writing standalone services popular beginner's macOS programming projects.

Since many applications install their entries without asking the user, the macOS services menu tends to clog up with dozens of entries quickly. Most users only will ever use a small subset of the possible options, therefore cutting down and customizing the menu makes it both faster and more pleasant to use. Prior to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, third party software is required to do this; in Snow Leopard, the Services menu can be customized from the Keyboard pane of System Preferences.

From the point of view of software, the Services menu is a means of inter-process communication. To the user, it is an interface for executing actions on selected data. The emulation of the Services menu is based on the fact that there are several ways this can be achieved in an operating system. Even in macOS, there is an alternative system called the context menu handler, which is carried over from classic Mac OS.

In the X Window System, any data selected in an application is available to all other programs. Thus the Services menu can be an application which retrieves the current selection, and lets the user choose an action. Missing is the part about returning the processed data back to the originating application. Instead, the service can open a new window to show the results.

Alternatively, the service could replace the current cut buffer with the results of the operation, leaving the user only to perform a paste (since different toolkits implement copy/select and paste commands differently, and probably not under external program control).

Good question, I would like to know this too. When in service mode I have stepped through various screens by pressing the Return/Lap Key. One of them turns the whole screen into a set of rectangles increasing in size from the centre outwards, which is kind of hypnotic if you stare at it and I guess is a test of the display. Another has the heading 'Backlight' and has five squares spaced around the perimeter, some of which can be switched from blank to black and the Backlight % value can be increased/decreased between 0-100. Very mysterious!

I have seen a few requests for a room service menu. Here is something I pieced together from the TV Room Service Menu on the Riviera during our Feb 7, 2022 cruise. Please excuse the quality but it's the best I could do!

No, this is for Penthouse. We sailed Jan 2022 with friends who were Concierge Veranda and their menu was much more limited. We were served beautiful fruit platters for breakfast, they got bowls of diced fruit. Veranda breakfast choices much more limited than PH.

Though to each their own. Did room service one morning on the 12/13-23/21 Riviera cruise to W. Caribbean (A4 Concierge). I found I much preferred going up to Waves and interacting with the passengers and crew. Had some fascinating conversations with the piano player and the environmental officer. Loved my Sun Salutation smoothie each morning looking out starboard usually at table 7 or 10. I found the room balcony worked best for me after dinner in the evening.

Please note a 20% service charge and a $5 delivery fee will be added to every check.

It would be interesting to shoot C875 in RAW. You lose the in-camera processing and color, but also lose the excessive noise reduction (especially high ISO.) I have a broken C875 (powers on, bad lens), but following the same instructions doesn't do anything. If I hold down the 'Delete' button when selecting the 'About' option, the info screen displays more info such as serial number, etc. But from there I can't access any more options, menus, etc.

Anyone have any luck with other Kodaks? If the C613 and C713 have this service menu, then surely other models do too. I think it's pretty common, the trick is just to actually find the combination of keys to unlock it...

I have a Casio Z1080 that can be hacked for RAW, after you enable the service menu it is the first thing that comes on after power on. You then have to enable RAW with a couple of button presses (or hit menu to bypass and just shoot JPEG), but it's pretty easy and can be done without looking at the camera. So it's actually practical, I wonder about the Kodaks.

I too love this stuff - I'm a total computer/electronics geek. There are probably other hidden menus on these cameras. See the two links below where someone found hidden menus for various calibration/testing on the Zx3 and Zi6 video cameras:

"CS" is the Checksum for the firmware. On my Z1085'S hidden menu is a number labeled "Firmware Checksum". A checksum is used for error detection in digital data. Guess this would be used to determine if the camera's firmware was corrupted.

Most of the mobile manufacturers include a hidden service menu in their mobile handsets. These menus allow users (or developers) to access some technical information and service personnel to access service details etc.

Some of these items may differ from handset to handset. These are the typical menu items available. This menu comes handy when checking the total call timer (in service tests), Rooting status check (in Service info -> Configuration), etc.

I'm having some trouble with my z6200 not entering the service menu. I press the up arrow + cancel + power for 5 seconds. It turns on then turns straight off again? I'm trying to fix a 24:10 error and this is really strarting to annoy me. 006ab0faaa
