Want to fish, kayak on a lake near home? Sign the petition
A plan to turn a Daphne lake into a site for trophy bass fishing, kayaking and nature education needs your support.
This is not a solicitation for money or a financial commitment.
By simply signing our petition, you are showing area business and political leaders that you favor restoring and preserving this natural resource for everyone’s enjoyment.
The lake is in the Lake Forest subdivision, easily accessible via the rear parking lot of Jubilee Square shopping center. You do not have to live in Lake Forest to sign the petition because the restored lake would be open to everyone.
What would a restored lake look like?
In addition the fishing, it would have multiple put-ins for kayaks, picnic areas, a pan-fishing area for children, and an environmental education center focusing on South Alabama wildlife.
Among the additional benefits of the lake restoration: improved protection for D’Olive Bay and the entire Mobile River estuary, flood control and an enhanced wildlife habitat.
A similar lake renovation in Florida produces nearly $6 million annually in direct economic benefits to the area and about $350,000 in annual sales tax revenue.
It also has enhanced property values within a five-mile radius.
Whether you are an outdoorsman, sport fisher, educator, business owner, hospitality or retail worker, or environmentalist, the lake restoration has something for you today and for generations to come.
