Welcome to my website!

I am a sixth-year PhD student in Economics at the University of Maryland. I am on the 2024/25 Job Market and available for interviews.

I use causal inference tools, structural models, and machine learning techniques to study how policy might promote productive development. My research focuses on industrial policy and transportation infrastructure.

Current projects explore how industrial policies shaped productive development in Latin America and East Asia over the twentieth century and how the Panama Canal transformed the economic geography of the Western Hemisphere.

You can reach me at lfj{at}umd.edu or luis.jaramillo{at}gmail.com

My research fields are (macro) development economics, international trade, and economic history. I also took courses in advanced econometrics and industrial organization.
