Dr. Vijeta Sharma focuses her practice in counselling clients on domestic and international patent preparation and prosecution, as well as on patent evaluation, portfolio management and landscape or competitor analysis.
Vijeta provides patentability opinions, prepares new patent applications, and prosecutes Indian and foreign applications. She has experience in prosecuting office actions, preparing and filing for NBA (National Biodiversity Authority, India) approval, IP due diligence and supporting the litigation team.
In addition to her patent counseling and prosecution practice, she also provides strategic advice and pre-litigation analysis and prepares freedom-to-operate, enforceability, and infringement opinions.
Vijeta’s technical experience includes DNA and protein therapeutics, biomarkers, stem cell technologies, genetic engineering, transgenic animals, gene therapy, molecular and cellular biological screening assays, vaccines, mammalian bioprocess, algal fermentation, methods of nucleic acid amplification, AI solutions for life sciences and healthcare including discovery platforms, amplification technologies, genetic screening, sequencing technologies including next generation sequencing, systems biology, process analytical technology, OMICS technology, fermentation, and biologics manufacturing processes.
With a multidisciplinary educational background of biotechnology, chemistry, and computer science, Vijeta assists clients with the complex and interdisciplinary nature of modern inventions. Vijeta has been handling inventions in several diversified technologies, including biotechnology, bioinformatics, pharmaceuticals, synthetic organic chemistry, chemical engineering, hardware and software technologies, information technology, machine learning, IoT and smart devices.
Prior to joining LexpertConsilium, Vijeta has worked at a law firm. Vijeta has received her Ph.D. from the School of Biotechnology, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her research work was on improving mammalian expression systems using tools of systems biology to increase integrated viable cell count (IVCC) and sustain expression capability in a bioreactor. Post Ph.D., she worked as research associate on a project titled ‘RICEFUEL: Engineering enzymes, bacteria and Bioconversion processes for advanced Biofuels from waste grain straw’ and was involved in molecular cloning, directed evolution, fermentation, and bioreactor data analysis. After getting diploma in Patent law, she earned significant experience as a patent associate during on-job training provided by the Patent Facilitating Centre of the Department of Science and Technology, India.

Ph.D. Thesis
“Designing Improved Mammalian Expression System Using Tools of Systems Biology” under the guidance of Prof. K. J. Mukherjee, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. The thesis consists of 4 chapters and discusses preparation of robust cell lines using cell engineering and use of metabolic foot-printing and proteomic analysis to enhance and analyze the performance of modified cell lines. Chapter 1 gives a brief introductory note of the problems related to small productive life span of the CHO cells in a bioreactor and need of a holistic approach to solve the problems. Chapter 2 discusses the literature review to address the highlighted problems. Chapter 3 discusses the method used to solve the problems. Chapter 4 discusses results obtained from methods adopted in chapter 3.
