Le Vrai Visage de Paul Biya: A Book Review
Le Vrai Visage de Paul Biya (The True Face of Paul Biya) is a book written by Daniel Ebale Angounou, a former member of the ruling party in Cameroon, who became a dissident and was imprisoned for his political views. The book exposes the dark side of Paul Biya, the president of Cameroon since 1982, and reveals some of the secrets behind his rise to power and his authoritarian rule.
The book is divided into three parts: the first part deals with the death of Jeanne-Irène Biya, the first wife of Paul Biya, who died mysteriously in 1992. The author claims that she was poisoned by her husband, who wanted to get rid of her and marry his mistress, Chantal Vigouroux. The second part focuses on the pact between Paul Biya and Ahmadou Ahidjo, the former president of Cameroon, who handed over power to Biya in 1982. The author alleges that Biya betrayed Ahidjo and tried to eliminate him and his supporters, leading to a coup attempt in 1984. The third part describes the corruption, nepotism, human rights violations, and electoral fraud that characterize Biya's regime.
