The Hedkandi brand was supported by Team Kandi, which involved a core of disc jockeys and brand ambassadors, and back office staff that delivered the international package of albums and events. Standing out from other club events, Hedkandi thrived on glitzy and glamorous production as well an emphasis on partnering the Hedkandi musical sound with high production values and locations.
Since its inception in 1999, Hedkandi has developed from hosting small boutique parties to staging more than 500 events annually.[3]It has a number of residences in Dubai, Amsterdam, US, Frankfurt, Thailand and the UK. Hedkandi has hosted events at renowned venues including Es Paradis Ibiza, Nikki Beach Miami, Pacha London the Muziekgebouw Concert Hall in Amsterdam, and a solo bar in Koh Samui.
The Hedkandi radio show is the most popular show on Ministry of Sound radio's 24/7 service and is syndicated on various stations around the world. It is available to listen to on the websites of both Ministry of Sound and Hedkandi. A separate version broadcasts weekly on Kiss FM.
Hedkandi has sold more than five million compilation albums to date.[4] The principal genre is soulful, vocal house although other dance music genres have been covered. The album covers have a distinctive illustrative form and belong to a series.
Hedkandi albums are generally recognizable by their illustrations of a woman dancing or clubbing on the beach, accompanied by Hedkandi's logo and the album name. The original illustrations were created by Jason Brooks and the original logo was designed by Ryan Hughes.
However, Back To Love was a compilation series that struck a nerve with many people. It brought back a sense of nostalgia, for people who remembered with fondness, the heady days of Acid House, and the eclectic music policy of the time. Back To Love and the subsequent compilations, recreated this eclectic music policy, with a mixture of musical genres happily, sitting side by side. Acid House, disco soul, funk and house music featured on the albums, and for many people, it brought back hedonistic nights of frenzied dancing until dawn in warehouses. After the success of the first volume, each year brought a new installment, with people awaiting eagerly, to here what hidden gems Mark Doyle would earth. Sometimes hidden gems sat next to familiar tracks, the only thing they had in common being their quality. I for one, loved this series, and will now review my favorite albums in the series, and my three favourite tracks from each of the volumes between 1999 and 2005, which to me, were the greatest years in the Back To Love series.
