Styles: "A dream is only a dream, until you decide to make it real."
Styles: "The difference between doing something and not doing something is doing something."
Styles: "I like things that involve skill and I love anything that's a bit of a challenge."
Styles: "Truth is, I don’t mind getting a black eye or broken arm for a girl as long as she’s there to kiss it after."
Styles: “Any time that you can make someone who potentially might not feel as great about themselves as they should, feel better about themselves, I think that’s always a positive thing.”
Styles: "It only takes a second to call a girl fat, and she’ll take a lifetime trying to starve herself. Think before you act."
Styles: “I think you have to take me for me. I am who I am.”
Styles: “I kind of said to my manager 'the first tour, I want it to be really small' and then I guess with this one, it was like I just wanted to have fun, I just wanted to have so much fun.”
Styles: “I hate the word famous because it has no substance.”
Styles: "I wouldn’t say I’m girl-crazy, because that makes me sound like a bit of a womanizer. That isn’t really me. But I am quite flirty – maybe too flirty. I’m an 18-year-old boy, and I like to have fun!"
Styles: "I think you should not be scared of embarrassing yourself, I think it builds character."
Styles: “l'd say my gut is the only thing I trust in terms of people.”
Styles: “I was trying to redefine what success meant to me, for so long, especially in the band, it was like every album got bigger and every tour got bigger and it was like always growing, and I think when I went to make the first record it was kind of freeing because I felt like 'well, I don't have to do this anymore'”
Styles: “I like girls who have two eyes.”
Styles: “Don’t choose the one who is beautiful to the world. But rather, choose the one who makes your world beautiful.”
Styles: "I don’t think you can define love."
Styles: “The best way I've ever heard song writing described was like.. it's kind of like surfing, you can practice getting up on the board as much as you want, and sometimes the wave just doesn't come, or the wave comes but you haven't practiced getting up on the board enough. Every now and again, you've practiced enough and the wave comes, and that's when you write that song.. so I kind of always wanted to be prepared to stand up on the board whenever the wave came.”
Styles: "I find ambition really attractive too – if someone’s good at something they love doing. I want someone who is driven."
Styles: “Do whatever makes you happiest in this world.”
Styles: “People often ask me why don't you have a girlfriend. Then I smile and say: I have thousands some just haven't met me yet”
Styles: "We have a choice… to live or to exist."
Styles: "You can tell far too much about a person by which monopoly piece they play as."
Styles: “You have a choice where you can either be all right to someone or you can be a little bit nicer, and that can make someone’s day.”
Styles: “I can make your girlfriend scream louder than you ever could just by pressing her follow button.”
Styles: "I’ve always wanted to be one of those people who didn’t really care much about what people thought about them… but I don’t think I am."
Styles: "Dreams come true if you keep on dreaming."
Styles: "Most of the stuff that hurts me about what’s going on at the moment is not politics, it’s fundamentals. Equal rights."
Styles: “Eating toast in the shower is the ultimate multitask.”
Styles: “I felt like a lot of pressure to be making these like big songs, I felt like 'this record has to be really big and I need to make certain songs'. I have all these ideas about records that I wanna make, like I wanna make this record in five years, I wanna make this record in ten years, like just these ideas for records that I wanna make.”
Styles: "I can take criticism, but if it's like 'I don't like you' then I want to know why people don't like me. Why do you hate me? What have I done?"
Styles: "Trick or treat people with kindness."
Styles: “I meditate and pray before going onstage – it helps me focus.”
Styles: "Everyone should love themselves & shouldn’t strive for perfection."
Styles: “People often ask me why don’t you have a girlfriend. Then I smile and say: I have thousands some just haven’t met me yet.”
Styles: "You get moments all the time that kind of make you pinch yourself, some of them make you quite emotional."
Styles: "To have time to live with a song, see what you love as a fan, chip at it, hone it and go for that… it’s heaven."
Styles: "I can see how you could get dragged into the bad stuff, but I've got good friends around me, good family."
Styles: "Since I’ve been 10, it’s kind of felt like – protect Mom at all costs… My mom is very strong. She has the greatest heart."
Styles: “I do miss having someone to spoil, somebody that you can just sit with for a bit.”
Styles: “I think when you’re writing songs, it’s impossible to not draw on personal experiences, whether it be traveling or girls, or anything.”
Styles: "Who’s to say that young girls who like pop music – short for popular, right? – have worse musical taste than a 30-year-old hipster guy? That’s not up to you to say. Music is something that’s always changing."
Styles: "I'm quite old-fashioned. I like going out to dinner. You have the chance to talk to somebody and get to know them better."
Styles: "I love the band, and would never rule out anything in the future. The band changed my life, gave me everything."
[On writing the song, Sweet Creature]
Styles: “That was in my first writing sessions when I kind of started, because up until that point I had done a lot of sessions with different people, and I tried to write with as many different people as possible just to like learn, I just wanted to learn.”
Styles: "If everyone was a little bit nicer to people, the world would be a much better place. You have a choice where you can either be all right to someone or you can be a little bit nicer, and that can make someone’s day."
Styles: “How can you say young girls don't get it? They're our future. Our future doctors, lawyers, mothers, presidents, they kind of keep the world going.”
Styles: "I want a girl who respects herself. It means her standards are high and if I fit them then I'd be honored. If she's easy then what does that say about me?"
Styles: "I quit shoelaces a long time ago."
Styles: “The times where I've ever been really really upset by people is when I'm more upset with myself, when I've got it wrong, because I feel like I'm a pretty good judge of character. It's where you're like 'oh I trusted this person.. oh I got that wrong and then I ended up really bummed out about it for a while.”
Styles: “A lot of the time, the way it’s portrayed is that I only see women in a sexual way. But I grew up with just my mum and sister, so I respect women a lot.”
Styles: “Work hard. Play hard. Be kind.”
Styles: “I’ve got four nipples. I think I must have been a twin, but the one other went away and left its nipples behind.”
Styles: "If you’re going to get in trouble for hitting someone, might as well hit them hard."
Styles: "You’re always going to write and draw inspiration from things that you’re feeling, things that you’ve felt. It’s kind of impossible not to unless you’re writing a song and there’s an exact scenario that you’re trying to write a song for."
[On writing the song, Cherry]
Styles: “I think the moment when I wrote it, I wanted to be true to the moment that I wrote it and how I was feeling then.”
Styles: "That’s the amazing thing about music: there’s a song for every emotion. Can you imagine a world with no music? It would suck."
Styles: "My worst habit is… Getting naked all the time haha… Sorry."
Styles: "I don’t want to be one of those people that complain about the rumors. I never like it when a celebrity goes on Twitter and says, 'This isn’t true!' It is what it is, I tend not to do that. The only time it gets really annoying is that if you get into a relationship and you get into a place where you really like someone and then things are being written in the papers that affect them and how they see you. Then it can get annoying."
Styles: "I’ve got four nipples. I think I must have been a twin, but the one other went away and left its nipples behind."
Styles: “I can see how you could get dragged into the bad stuff, but I’ve got good friends around me, good family. I think I’ve got my head screwed on.”
Styles: “Swallow your fears. Wipe off your tears. Let go of your darkest years. Chin up. Smile. Walk away.”
Styles: "Never make eye contact with anyone while eating a banana."
