Cabello: “So much of the time we’re like; we ask everybody before we can trust ourselves.”
Cabello: "Anxiety is like you are trying to predict, and you are trying to control what's going to happen. 'Did I make the right choice? Did I make the wrong choice?'"
Cabello: "It's been so difficult to watch people criticize me and my intentions."
Cabello: "So many people have disappointed me. And there's also been so many people - not so many, but a few people who make everything worth it, stick through it, and they show loyalty. And no matter what goes down, seas or rough or calm Sunday afternoon, those are people that are worth it. You die for those people."
Cabello: "Believe in everything, just in case."
Cabello: "My favorite word of all time is 'serendipity.' It means a 'fortunate accident' and it is the most important word in the world, because it taught me the only way to experience magic is to believe in it... The universe is in constant communication with us, playing a charming little game of charades. We guess and we guess and we make a fool of ourselves guessing, but we will find our answer, and the whole room will cheer when we do."
Cabello: "Obviously any band, any group, someday is not going to be together anymore. That's the truth."
Cabello: "All the hell I experienced – whether it was in my mind, outside my mind, in little waves or big waves – taught me how to find the peace that I’m getting now."
Cabello: "I don’t know if I knew I was a good singer but I really liked to sing and, whenever I did, it didn’t get a terrible response so I just kept doing it."
Cabello: "You have to follow and honor that inner voice. I always encouraged the girls to do the same."
Cabello: "There's nothing wrong with showing sexuality. If you have that inside, it's just an expression of who you are. If you want to share that with people, that's amazing. I love that."
Cabello: "I'm such a control freak and I love control, and part of the beauty in life is just letting go of that control and just being like 'you just gonna enjoy this.'"
Cabello: "I've always written songs that were confessional, acoustic, wordy - my writing style matches my personality. The music always has to match the mouth it comes out of."
Cabello: "Sometimes I won't understand how I am feeling until I write a song about it."
Cabello: "Not caring what people think about you is so much easier said than done and I think that it's easy to be in school and kind of compare yourself to everybody else, you might think that you're weird because some people don't like you or because you just dont feel like you belong in your own skin in your school and I think that it's important to realize that there's absolutely nothing wrong with you you're worth so much. As time progresses you'll see that and you have to learn to love yourself and accept yourself because it's your skin."
Cabello: "There's no freedom like the freedom that comes from accepting yourself."
Cabello: "I'm never gonna be like 'oh yeah that was that was perfect.' Like I'm always gonna listen back and be like 'oh I could have done this different,' 'I could have had a song that was more like this,' 'I could have been more descriptive about this.' There's always those things that you're like 'oh I could have done this better.'"
Cabello: "There's definitely been times where there's stuff that I have not been comfortable with, and I've had to put my foot down."
Cabello: “I think pretending is a form of psychological torture and brings the most anxiety. We do that so much in our society and culture. We’re constantly hustling and putting on a smile when we don’t feel good.”
Cabello: "I think everybody can relate to loving somebody and them bringing out a wild side in you."
Cabello: "Now and forevermore, I'm going to stick up for immigrants, and I'm going to stick up for Hispanic people and their rights. I feel like that's just my job."
Cabello: "There are two kinds of people in the world: the ones that are relieved by this next sentence, and the ones that are worried: karma is real."
Cabello: "Some people will gossip and spread poison, they will forget about lifting themselves up and become obsessed with tearing you down... hatred is only a reflection of people’s own misery, they have so much of it they want to find other places to put it in. But whatever you do, don’t lose hope in people and don’t stop being kind to people. Let life do it’s thing. Be kind, work hard, cheer people on, and life will be good to you."
Cabello: "Fifth Harmony is an entity or identity outside all of us, and I don't think anybody felt individually represented by the sound - we didn't make it."
Cabello: "But it's the first time I put out an album and been immediately just ready to go back in and keep writing. And I think it's also my brain really associates it with fun and joy."
Cabello: "I remember my first breakup with my first partner. I was like, 'Oh no! What have I done? What is this? This is the worst mistake of my life!' And then, you know, years later, you move on, and you're like, 'Oh, I am so glad that this worked out the way that it did.'"
Cabello: "No matter what happens, be as kind as you can."
Cabello: "Life gave me a piece of wisdom, just from experience. And my mom and my grandma always said to me, 'You never know what's around the corner."
Cabello: "Take a deep breath, listen to your favorite song and realize everything is gonna be okay, nothing is permanent."
Cabello: "Not caring what people think about you is so much easier said than done and I think that it's easy to be in school and kind of compare yourself to everybody else, you might think that you're weird because some people don't like you or because you just dont feel like you belong in your own skin in your school and I think that it's important to realize that there's absolutely nothing wrong with you you're worth so much."
Cabello: "In the music industry, there's often a lot of egos and people aren't always very supportive, but we cheer each other on and we push each other to be better."
Cabello: "It is your chance to say everything words can’t express. When you feel weak and fragile and you've given them so much of your heart they could break it at any second, say it.. kiss slowly, kiss softly, fingers running through their spine, face between hands... I’m all for words, but, trust me, kisses are better than poetry."
Cabello: "I love love. I'm, like, obsessed with it."
Cabello: "I would wake up really early and go into the hotel bathroom, put a towel over the toilet, and put my laptop there. I'd put my headphones on and just write. And so now when I do writing sessions, and I am stuck on a part, or I can't figure out a chorus, I'm just like, 'Give me a second,' and I'll go to that bathroom."
Cabello: "Every single time I’ve been vulnerable, someone has said, 'That’s not weird, that’s totally normal.'"
Cabello: "I feel like choosing collaborators is just as important as choosing your friends or romantic partner. It’s got to be somebody I feel safe with, somebody that I trust, that I know that I could talk about anything, and I could talk about the most f*cked up thoughts that I have."
Cabello: "Be kind to people, keep people’s secrets, be the one that answers the phone when nobody else does, make everyone feel important."
Cabello: "I’ve always written songs for the sake of my own sanity and expression, but the fact that Shawn and I got to write this song, we clicked creatively, and people liked it enough for it to even be released is a really validating feeling."
Cabello: "It’s like if you tell a guy that you like him, the minute he leaves, you’re like, 'Oh my god, why did I say that? That was so stupid.'"
Cabello: "For me, I've learned if I want a very stable, normal relationship, where I'll be like, 'Okay, this is nice, I know what's going to happen in a month,' it's probably better to date outside the industry. But you can't help who you fall for. It's our dating pool."
Cabello: "I think songwriting was the biggest way that I found my identity."
Cabello: "But the truth is, I like being comfortable, and so even if I know there are photographers outside, I don’t really feel like I have to change. When I go to the [tour] venues and I know fans are outside, I’ll wear sunglasses and boots, because I want to look great for them. My general thing is, if you feel cute in your outfit, then your outfit is cute."
Cabello: "The whole point of music is being able to share your story."
Cabello: "When I’m anxious or sad or feel overwhelmed, he makes me feel better. He’s not just a friend when it’s easy or convenient, but he’s there when it’s hard, too. I feel like you can tell a lot about a person by the way they make other people feel about themselves. Shawn makes his crew, his fans, his friends, and everyone he cares about feel good about themselves."
Cabello: "Any song I do, I put my heart and soul into and, as an artist, you can only hope it makes other people feel the way you feel when making it."
Cabello: "Sometimes you will have to walk away from people you're addicted to. You will need to stop making excuses for people that hurt you... it will be the hardest thing you’ve ever had to do. You will think you’ve walked away from something you can’t replace, that you’ll never feel that high again. Trust me, you will."
Cabello: "It's more than Fifth Harmony, the girl group - it's a sisterhood."
Cabello: "If you're having the worst day of your life, smile at people walking on a sidewalk. Text your best friend and tell her you are so happy the boy she's liked since 7th grade is in her math class. It’ll make you feel better. Love is love, given or taken, created or received."
