McKenzie: "I’m still learning a lot with every single thing I do."
McKenzie: "It’s important for young women coming into this industry to realize they should be respected, be able to assert themselves, share their ideas and opinions, because they’re valid."
McKenzie: "I want to play a fairy, I can play Tinkerbell, or do a live-action version of the Rainbow Fairies books. Let me know."
McKenzie: "I think I’m drawn to dark comedy. I can be quite sarcastic and have kind of a Kiwi sensibility, which is kind of putting ourselves down. So it’s something that I respond to. I also think it’s a really amazing tool to hit people hard."
McKenzie: "I think I’m someone who really struggles to be in the moment"
McKenzie: "I hated acting when I was a kid, even though I did it sometimes. It was a part-time job that enabled me to buy Bratz dolls and stuff. It was relentless in my family. My parents, my three siblings, are all actors, writers, directors – even my 91-year-old grandmother is an actress who is still working."
McKenzie: "I definitely didn’t want to be an actress at first, I was more interested in being a vet or working at an animal rescue."
McKenzie: "I find it very uncomfortable using my own accent when I’m working, so being able to put on an accent for a character is really helpful to me."
McKenzie: "I’ve been acting my entire life. I’m a third generation actor."
McKenzie: "For the longest time, when I was younger, I used to wish that I actually was from America, just because I was so frustrated at the amount of time and money I’d had to spend on accent coaching. But now I’m really grateful to be from New Zealand."
McKenzie: "I love how nothing is ever tied up in a pretty bow. That’s not how life is, things are complicated."
McKenzie: "Her style of writing is queasy, uncomfortable, and very truthful. It’s very visceral. It was really fun playing with that tone in the film and trying to achieve that feeling you get when reading her work."
McKenzie: "Cornish is one of my favorite accents I’ve ever done, with all the ‘ayes’ and the great sounds!"
