If you want over-ear headphones optimized for long study sessions with seamless Microsoft Teams integration, choose Lenovo Dual Mode; if you need compact earbuds with an AI note-taker and instant silence for focused work on the go, choose Anker Soundcore Liberty 5.
• Lenovo Dual Mode: Delivers exceptional battery life (60 hours) and ergonomic comfort for all-day wear, but lacks the portability and advanced AI features of modern earbuds. Best for students who prioritize physical comfort during marathon study blocks.
• Anker Soundcore Liberty 5: Offers groundbreaking AI transcription and ultra-portable design with rapid charging, yet sacrifices the extended battery endurance and over-ear isolation of traditional headsets. Best for mobile learners who need to capture notes instantly and switch between locations.
• The Trade-off: You are choosing between the physical endurance of a headset designed for stationary focus versus the technological intelligence of earbuds designed for dynamic productivity.
The Lenovo Dual Mode Wireless ANC Headset is built for the person who treats studying as a marathon rather than a sprint. Its primary strength lies in its ability to provide a stable, comfortable platform for hours of continuous use without fatigue. The design features pressure-relieving headbands and plush memory foam cushioning that rotates with your movements, specifically engineered to prevent the buildup of pressure often associated with on-ear designs during long periods of wear. If you spend six or eight hours in a library or a quiet room, this headset ensures that the hardware itself does not become a distraction.
For the student who relies heavily on synchronous communication, the Microsoft Teams certification is a game-changer. This isn't just a pair of headphones that happens to work with Teams; it is fully optimized with dedicated call controls and audio tuning that delivers clear, reliable communication. The Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation works in tandem with Environmental Noise Cancellation to isolate your voice and block out background chatter, which is critical when you are trying to focus on complex material while occasionally joining group discussions or virtual office hours. The ability to store up to 8 paired devices and maintain two simultaneous connections means you can seamlessly switch between a laptop for research and a phone for quick coordination without fumbling with settings.

However, this product is not for everyone. If you value absolute portability or plan to study in environments where you might move frequently—like walking between classes, commuting on public transit, or working in coffee shops—the bulkier form factor of these over-ear headphones might feel cumbersome compared to true wireless options. Additionally, while the noise cancellation is effective, the open-ear nature of some listening modes might let more ambient sound through compared to the in-ear seal of premium earbuds. It is a serious piece of equipment for a dedicated workspace, not a casual accessory for quick tasks.
The Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro Max redefines what a study tool can be by integrating artificial intelligence directly into the audio experience. This is the ideal choice for the student who needs to capture information as it happens. The standout feature is the AI Note-Taker, which uses the smart charging case to record in-person meetings and interviews, transcribing them into summaries with key points and action items. Unlike other tools that require separate apps or manual typing, this system handles the heavy lifting of documentation right from the case, offering a free starter plan that includes 120 minutes of transcription per month. For a student taking lecture notes or conducting research interviews, this capability transforms passive listening into active data collection.
In terms of pure acoustic performance for focus, the Liberty 5 excels in creating a barrier against chaos. With 100% more effective noise cancellation than previous models, it utilizes 8 sensors and the Thus AI Chip to process over 384,000 noise signals per second. This level of processing power allows it to block subway noise, street chaos, or a busy office environment instantly. The result is "Instant Pure Silence," which is essential for deep concentration. Furthermore, the whisper-clear call technology, powered by 10 sensors, ensures that even in noisy 100 dB+ environments, your voice remains intelligible during video calls or study group check-ins. The large 1.78-inch AMOLED display on the case adds a layer of control, letting you adjust settings, manage the AI recorder, or customize wallpapers without ever touching your phone.
Despite its high-tech prowess, there are trade-offs to consider regarding physical comfort and endurance. As in-ear buds, they rely on a seal created by eartips, which some users find less comfortable than the suspension of over-ear cups for very long durations. While the battery life is respectable at 6.5 hours with ANC on and up to 28 hours with the case, it falls short of the 60-hour marathon run offered by the Lenovo headset. If you have back-to-back study sessions spanning multiple days without access to a charger, the Liberty 5 will require more frequent top-ups. It is best suited for those who value mobility and digital assistance over raw, multi-day battery endurance.

• Best for Note-Taking & Documentation → Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 wins hands down with its built-in AI transcription and summary generation capabilities.
• Best for Physical Comfort During Long Sessions → Lenovo Dual Mode's memory foam and rotating earcups reduce pressure better than in-ear seals for hours of wear.
• Best for Portability → Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 fits in a pocket, whereas the Lenovo headset requires a carrying case and occupies more space.
• Best for Microsoft Teams Integration → Lenovo Dual Mode is certified specifically for Teams with optimized audio routing and dedicated controls.

• Best Value for Mobile Professionals → Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 combines audio, recording, and AI assistance in one compact unit.
After weighing the specifications and real-world application for a student, I would choose the Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 for most people today. While the Lenovo Dual Mode is an excellent machine for sitting still in a library, the study landscape has shifted toward mobility and efficiency. The ability to have an AI assistant transcribe your lectures and meetings automatically is a utility that saves far more time than the extra battery life of the Lenovo headset provides. The Liberty 5's superior noise cancellation also ensures that you can focus anywhere, from a crowded cafe to a train, without sacrificing clarity. For the specific use case of best over ear headphones for study, the Lenovo is a contender, but for the broader need of noise cancelling in ear earbuds for study combined with smart productivity tools, the Anker is the smarter investment.
Both products offer strong noise cancellation, but the Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 uses advanced AI processing to block chaotic environments like subways and streets more effectively, while the Lenovo Dual Mode focuses on isolating voice and office noise for long-term comfort.
Yes, the Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 features a smart charging case with a built-in microphone that records in-person audio and uses AI to generate transcripts and summaries, though it cannot capture online video calls.
The Lenovo Dual Mode significantly outlasts the Anker with up to 60 hours of playback on a single charge, whereas the Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 offers about 6.5 hours with ANC on and up to 28 hours total with its charging case.
Yes, the Lenovo Dual Mode supports universal UC platform compatibility, ensuring reliable performance across various business communication tools beyond just Teams.
