Daim Iqbal Daim: A Sufi Poet of Punjab

Daim Iqbal Daim was a renowned Punjabi poet who wrote in Urdu and Persian as well. He was born in 1909 in Wasu District Mandi Bahauddin and authored at least 120 books of poetry and prose. He was influenced by the Sufi tradition and expressed his love for God and humanity in his verses. Life of Daim Iqbal Daim

Daim Iqbal Daim was born in a poor family in Wasu, a village in Mandi Bahauddin district of Punjab. His father was a farmer and his mother was a housewife. He had a passion for learning from an early age and studied Arabic, Persian, Urdu and English at various schools and madrasas. He also learned the Quran by heart and became a hafiz.

Daim started writing poetry when he was 15 years old and soon gained recognition for his talent. He published his first book, Sohni Mahinwal, in 1930, which was a romantic epic based on a folk tale. He followed it with many other books on various topics such as history, religion, mysticism, ethics and culture. He also wrote biographies of famous Sufi saints such as Abdul Qadir Jilani, Ali Hujwiri and Moinuddin Chishti.
