Lena Shi, PhD
Assistant Professor of Education Policy & Evaluation (Fall 2024)
UC Irvine

My research identifies contributors to—and solutions for— inequality in higher education. I rely on field experiments, quasi-experimental approaches using large-scale datasets, and surveys to study policies and factors that affect educational attainment, economic mobility, college application and enrollment patterns, and education finance.

I served as a White House Policy Advisor and U.S. Department of Education Presidential Management Fellow from 2014-2017. I hold a Ph.D. from Harvard.
