Once a custom campaign is downloaded from a site, the VPK file is simply placed into the addons folder found in either Left 4 Dead or Left 4 Dead 2 folders. Campaigns are generally created for a certain game; a campaign created for Left 4 Dead may not always work for Left 4 Dead 2, and vice versa, so be aware which game the custom campaign is for before installing.

Helm's Deep is a survival map that takes players to Helm's Deep from Lord of the Rings. The map was also featured by Valve on February 20, 2013. This custom campaign allows players to survive against the hordes of the undead with their friends in the iconic fortress that served at the kingdom of Rohan's last stand against the forces of Saruman.

Like most custom L4D2 maps, the Deathcraft 2 Left 4 Dead 2 campaign is similarly available through both the Steam Workshop and GameMaps. However, there are a total of seven parts, and all other addons must be disabled for Deathcraft 2 to work correctly.

Make a new folder inside the "addons" directory, and give it an appropriate name. This new folder will be the name of the VPK file you'll ultimately create and distribute, so it's good practice to avoid spaces and use all lowercase letters. You may also include the game in the title, to differentiate it from add-ons for other titles, and optionally a version number. We'll use "deadline" instead of "l4d_deadline" for our example for the sake of readability.

It should be noted that L4D treats the/deadlinefolder much the same way as the/left4deadfolder, so any folders you use inside the materials and models that you employ must also be present in your campaign's folder.

With its own soundtrack and some seriously detailed maps, this Area 51-inspired campaign feels like it rolled right out of Valve's development studio. Just a heads-up though, if stumbling upon massive piles of dead bodies gives you the creeps, you might want to reconsider giving this one a shot.

The Bloody Moors is another Kev Edwards sinister campaign where survivors are fleeing the USA for refuge in England, only to crash-land on the bleak Yorkshire moors. They're not in for a cozy welcome, though. They'll be battling through creepy cottages, grimy canals, spooky cemeteries, and more, all while facing a bunch of undead enemies.

You can download the Dam It campaign here. There are two ways to install the addon, with the "automatic" way consisting of unzipping the .vpk file and double clicking it to launch. The "manual" way, on the other hand, requires you to unzip the same file and copy it over to Left 4 Dead's "addons" folder.

Custom maps are the best. Yes, they're slightly unpolished, and you might lose your way when playing those two, but they are interesting attempts at taking Left 4 Dead's infection to new places. I particularly like the chilly air of China, and the dapper clothes of the Titanic's passengers. For angry traditionalists, Diescraper is a more traditional Left 4 Dead 2 scenario, sending the survivors spiraling up from the bottom of an infested skyscraper. If you're scared of heights there's Blackout Basement. It's a hefty custom campaign that leads you underneath Philadelphia, where a lot of the time you're reliant on your flashlights to see. It has a smart addition of optional crescendos, which will allow you to light your way, but the noise and light will bring extra undead.

The infected (voiced by experimental musician Mike Patton [commons, Smoker, and Hunter] and voice actor Fred Tatasciore [Boomer and Tank])[15] are the enemies of Left 4 Dead, and comparisons have been made with 'zombies' from certain modern films, such as Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later, and Quarantine.[16][17] An important distinction from the former is that the infected are, as cited in the game's manual, living humans infected with a rabies-like pathogen; more similar to the latter two films, rather than undead zombies. While they are never seen eating humans, bite wounds and mutilation are often mentioned. In an interview with 1Up.com, designer Mike Booth commented on the concept of using a pathogen as an inspiration for the setting:.mw-parser-output .templatequote{overflow:hidden;margin:1em 0;padding:0 32px}.mw-parser-output .templatequote .templatequotecite{line-height:1.5em;text-align:left;padding-left:1.6em;margin-top:0}

Can anyone please guide me on how to play addon campaigns with my friends on lan/ host an addon campaign cause there's no console command to launch an addon campaign of course, and also when I try to change the current campaign the "Addon Campaigns" option is blurred, I can't select it. I've seen many online non steam servers that are hosting addon campaigns too. Idk how to? Help would be highly appreciated. 0852c4b9a8
