I'm Dr. Lee Nickles, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Education and Allied Professions at Western Carolina University, a position I have held since 2023. Prior to this, I served as the Director of Assessment in the college from 2016 to 2023.
I completed my BS and MS in Industrial Engineering at Clemson University and a PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Georgia Tech in 2004. I also earned a MS in Instructional Technology from East Carolina University in 2020 thanks to the UNC System employee tuition benefit.
Through my education and experience, I've gained skills with systems modeling and analysis, cognitive engineering, software and database development, general IT support, assessment and accreditation, and STEM in education. Now, in my administrative role, I am learning about budgeting, curriculum processes, student support, and other aspects of higher education administration.
I also serve as an adjunct instructor for the online MS in Instructional Design and Learning Technology program at Anderson University in Anderson, SC.
As associate dean in my college, I serve as the department head for the Student Success Center (Suite 201) that houses student advising, teacher education admissions and licensure, the Office of Field Experiences, and several other initiatives. I manage the curriculum change process within our college, a core component of what we do at the university. I support assessment and accreditation of the academic programs and support units in the college. I manage assessment data and support reporting (state and federal) for all professional education programs plus program-level assessment data reported out through a series of Power BI dashboards. I am also the college's primary liaison to various internal units such as IT and OIPE. In addition, I've taught classes and served on thesis/disquisition committees within the college.
