OVERVIEW
Marquee does not require an account, and we do not sell personal information. You type a message, show it as a scrolling dot-matrix sign in full-screen Show mode, save signs to a Library, and can export a sign as an MP4 or GIF animation. Your signs are kept in the app's storage on your device. The app also uses Google services and an advertising mediation partner for analytics, crash reporting, remote configuration, and advertising.
SIGNS, ANIMATIONS AND PHONE WALL
The app does not use the microphone, your photos or your location. The camera is used only if you choose to scan a Phone wall QR code (see below). Messages are turned into dot patterns and animations on your device; the app does not upload your messages or animations.
When you export, the animation is made on your device and written to the app's own files folder. It shows the message text you typed. "Save to gallery" adds a copy to your device's Movies/Marquee or Pictures/Marquee folder (on older Android versions the system save screen opens and you choose where to save it). "Share file" opens the system share sheet; where you send the file is your choice.
"Phone wall" creates a text code containing your message(s), sign settings and a planned start time so other phones can show the same sign, and shows the code as a QR code made on your device. The app does not send this code anywhere by itself: you can copy or paste it, "Share wall code" opens the system share sheet with the code text (where you send it is your choice), and "Scan wall QR" reads a QR code from another phone with the camera. Camera access is requested only when you tap "Allow camera" after choosing Scan; the camera picture is used to read the code and is not saved or uploaded by the app. A scanned or pasted code changes the sign in the editor; it is added to the Library only if you tap Save.
INFORMATION STORED ON YOUR DEVICE
For each saved sign the app keeps the message text, a title taken from the start of the message, the time it was last saved, its display settings (text style, dot rows, speed, direction, colour, dot shape, dot gap, glow, blink, rainbow) and its message sequence (each message's text, seconds and, for some messages, its own dot rows). There is no fixed limit on the number of saved signs. The app also keeps a deletion marker for each sign you delete, without a limit, so that restoring a backup does not bring deleted signs back.
The app may also store basic operating information such as cached advertising settings and a cached More Apps list. If a saved sign cannot be read, the app keeps the unreadable text instead of deleting it.
The developer does not run a server that receives your signs. The app reads developer-controlled advertising settings and a More Apps list from Google Cloud Firestore, but it does not upload your signs, messages or animations. When you open More Apps, app icons are loaded from the web addresses in that list.
ANALYTICS, CRASH REPORTING, AND ADS
Google Firebase Analytics may process limited app-usage and technical information, such as app launches, a splash screen view, menu actions (such as Review and More Apps), review-prompt outcomes (with whether it came from the menu or the exit dialog), ad revenue events (ad format, value, currency and precision), app version, device type, and app-instance identifiers. These events do not include your message text, sign titles or animations.
Google Firebase Crashlytics may process crash reports and related technical information needed to diagnose app problems.
The app shows ads through Google AdMob (banner, app-open, interstitial and native ad requests). AdMob may also request ads from the InMobi mediation network. Google and InMobi may process advertising identifiers and device, app, consent, network, and ad-performance information to provide and measure ads, and may use an IP address to estimate an approximate location even though the app has no location permission.
Banner ads appear only on the Library screen. Full-screen ads may appear when the app starts, when you return to the app on the Library screen, or after you tap Done on a finished export. The app does not start a full-screen ad while a sign is in Show mode or while an animation is being exported.
PERMISSIONS AND ADVERTISING CHOICES
The app declares internet access, the Android advertising ID permission, vibration (used for short feedback when you tap buttons or finish an action) and the camera. The camera permission is asked for only when you tap "Allow camera" while scanning a Phone wall QR code; if you do not allow it, you can paste the code instead. The app does not request microphone, photos, location, contacts, Bluetooth, health data, or notifications. Restoring a backup uses the system file picker, where you choose the files.
When the app starts, Google's consent message (UMP) is checked first. Where it is required (for example in the EEA and UK), personalized advertising stays off unless your choice allows it. If the consent message cannot be loaded, the app still requests non-personalized ads and personalized advertising stays off. The app works whatever you choose. Where Google requires it, the app menu (Settings) shows "Privacy choices", which reopens the consent message so you can change your advertising choice.
STORAGE AND YOUR CONTROL
"Delete" in the Library asks for confirmation, then removes the sign's data file and Library entry, adds a deletion marker, and deletes the animations exported from that sign and the damaged-text files saved for it that are still in the app's storage (an animation that is being saved to the gallery at that moment is kept). The sign remains in backups made earlier. Exported animations are kept in the app's files folder: when the app starts and when you export, the app keeps the three most recent exports and deletes older ones, again keeping an animation that is being saved to the gallery. Saved damaged-text files are trimmed when the app starts to the three most recent for signs that have not been deleted. Files the app does not recognize by name are not removed. Copies you saved to the gallery or sent elsewhere stay there. You can clear the app's data in Android settings or uninstall the app to remove the app's storage. Local data may be included in a Google or device backup depending on your backup settings; uninstalling normally removes the active copy but may not remove an older backup.
"Back up library" writes backup files with every sign in the Library (including the raw text of damaged signs) and the list of deleted sign IDs. The app keeps each backup in its storage and does not delete older backups, and it opens the system share sheet for each file; where you send or save them is your choice. "Restore backup parts" reads backup files you pick; the system picker may place copies in the app's cache, and the app keeps the checked parts in its storage so a restore can be completed later, and removes its copies of that backup's parts after a restore with all of the parts completes. "Export damaged text" saves a damaged sign's raw text in the app's storage and opens the share sheet.
Because we do not receive your signs, we cannot delete them for you; the controls above act on the app's storage. For questions about data processed by Google or InMobi, or to ask us for help with a privacy request, contact us at the address below.
Data processed by third parties is retained according to their service settings and policies. We use these services under their applicable terms, and we ensure that third-party service providers with whom we share user data provide the same or equal protection of that data as stated in this policy.

SECURITY
Your signs, backups and exported animations are kept in the app's private storage on your device, which the operating system protects from other apps; they are not separately encrypted by the app, so protect your device with a screen lock. Apart from the limited analytics events described above, the app does not upload your saved data. Communication between the app and Google services and the ad mediation partner uses encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we limit what the app collects to what is described in this policy.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Show mode sets the screen to full brightness and keeps it awake, and the Blink and Rainbow effects make the sign flash or change colour. If you are sensitive to flashing lights, avoid these effects. Do not use or watch the app while driving, and follow local rules where you display a sign. Phone wall timing and alignment are set by hand and may need adjustment. Some characters may not display correctly with your device's fonts. Only display and share messages you have the right to use.
CHILDREN
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
CHANGES
We may update this policy if the app or its services change. The date above shows the latest revision.
