International Society for Technology in Education Standards
In 2016, the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) refreshed their Standards for Students. These standards are widely accepted as the foundation for technology implementation and integration in the classroom. For this module we will be looking more closely at the following standards:
Digital Citizenship: Students recognize the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living, learning and working in an interconnected digital world, and they act and model in ways that are safe, legal and ethical. (Go to ISTE Student Standards webpage for specific indicators.)
Creative Communicator: Students communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using the platforms, tools, styles, formats and digital media appropriate to their goals. (Go to ISTE Student Standards webpage for specific indicators.)
Knowledge Constructor: Students critically curate a variety of resources using digital tools to construct knowledge, produce creative artifacts and make meaningful learning experiences for themselves and others. (Go to ISTE Student Standards webpage for specific indicators.)
Additionally, we will be looking at the ISTE Standards for Teachers - 2011. Specifically:
Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility. Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices.
The permission guidelines from ISTE do not allow us to provide a pdf version of the standards on this page, however, please go to ISTE's Standards' website to download a copy of the Standards for Students - 2016 and Standards for Teachers- 2011.
