The role of the School Social Worker is to provide support to all students, families, and staff within the school community. This support is provided at different levels based on the individual needs. The School Social Worker collaborates with other school personnel (i.e. Administration, School Counselor, Behavior Interventionist, Teachers, and Special Education Instructional Facilitator) to provide comprehensive services to students and their families. Teachers and other staff may make referrals to the School Social Worker through an internal process. The School Social Worker helps with connecting families to community resources, provides Social Emotional Learning groups to classes or small groups, as well as providing individualized School-Based Mental Health services on a case by case basis. School Social Workers can act as Foster Care Advocates and Title 1 School Coordinators.
