Welcome to the art room! I look forward to meeting students and families this year!
I began teaching art in Wake County in 2009 after earning a BA in Art Education from Meredith College.
Through the years I have taught a number of public and private art lessons and summer art camps with community organizations such as Arts Together, the North Carolina Museum of Art, Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, Rex Hospital, and the WCPSS Summer Learning Program.
I have also enjoyed offering art and music enrichment in several countries on service mission trips.
Outside of school, I enjoy finding beautiful places to spend time outdoors, nature photography, travel, arts festivals, and spending quality time with friends and family.
Along with visual art, I enjoy music, musical theater, and writing poetry. Growing up I was involved in music and dance performance and you could always find me “making something” as a child.
There are interesting forms of art around the world to discover and experience! I appreciate artistic cultural traditions and folk art.
Beautiful patterns, colorful textiles, and handicraft art from artists in cultures around the world continually inspire me.
Some of the places I've explored over the years are Mexico, India, Turkey, Italy, Costa Rica, Chile, Curacao, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, the American Southwest and several other Caribbean islands.
In art class, students have the opportunity to engage their creative impulse, make connections, try many new art tools, and explore their imagination!
I wish for each student to feel valued, motivated and curious to let art help them discover all kinds of new things!
Our projects and lessons enhance our STEM learning, help us make real-world connections, and spark curiosity about communities around us.
This year, we will learn new ways to talk about art and view pieces from our local North Carolina Museum of Art.
We will have fun exploring elements and principles of art, American art, multicultural art, folk art, color theory, and famous artists in history.
Art class will help us make connections with other subjects, such as literacy, science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
