The history of LEGO dates back to 1932 and its invention can be linked to a carpenter, Ole Kirk Kristiansen. At first he only produced wooden toys and after two years he took the name LEGO. The name comes from the phrase "leg godt", which means: play well. Later (1947) for financial reasons, they switched to plastic building blocks, which many did not like at first. With this change to plastic, they also changed from simple toys to building toys - the building blocks had cams on top (not all of them), while they had holes on the bottom, so two building blocks could be snapped together. But unfortunately it didn't work out very well at first, because they thought that plastic toys would never be able to replace wooden toys. But not long after, the business took off.
