This Privacy Policy explains what information the app "Apprendre le Coréen" (the "App") handles, why, and the choices you have. By installing and using the App, you agree to this policy.

## 1. Summary
- The App is **offline-first**. Your learning content, progress, XP, streaks and settings are stored **only on your device**. We do **not** operate any account system and we do **not** upload your learning data to our servers.
- The App shows **advertising** through **Google AdMob**. To serve ads, Google may collect certain device data (see Section 3).
- The App uses **Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics** to understand anonymous usage and to receive crash reports (see Section 4). No learning content or the name you enter is sent.
- In the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the App asks for your **consent** before personalized ads and analytics collection, using Google's **User Messaging Platform (UMP)** consent form. Collection stays disabled until consent is resolved.

## 2. Information stored on your device only
The following data never leaves your device (it is kept in the App's local database and preferences):
- **Profile you choose to enter:** a display name and an optional country code (used only to personalize the greeting and the simulated leaderboard). These fields are optional and can be left empty.
- **Learning progress:** words seen, mastery status, spaced-repetition (SM-2) schedule, quiz results.
- **Gamification data:** XP, daily streak, daily goal, weekly challenge progress, achievements, shop items unlocked.
- **Preferences:** interface language, audio voice and speed, romanization toggle, dark theme, reminder time.
You can erase all of this at any time by clearing the App's storage in Android **Settings → Apps → Apprendre le Coréen → Storage → Clear data**, or by uninstalling the App.
We do **not** collect, transmit or sell this on-device data.
## 3. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The App uses **Google AdMob** to display banner, interstitial and (opt-in) rewarded ads. To provide and measure ads, Google and its partners may collect and process data such as:
- device identifiers (e.g. Advertising ID), IP address, and general device information;
- approximate, non-precise location derived from the above;
- ad interaction data (impressions, clicks) for measurement and fraud prevention.
This processing is performed by Google as an independent controller/processor under its own terms. Please review:

**Consent (EEA/UK/CH):** before requesting ads, the App displays Google's UMP consent message. Your choice (consent or refusal of personalized ads) is recorded by the Google UMP SDK. If you refuse, the App will request only non-personalized or limited ads where available. You can change your choice later from the consent options surfaced by the App, or by resetting your device Advertising ID in Android settings.
**Children:** this App is **not directed to children** and is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Ads are configured for a general audience.
## 3b. Analytics and crash reporting (Firebase)
The App uses **Google Firebase Analytics** and **Firebase Crashlytics** to:
- measure **anonymous, aggregated usage** (e.g. which screens are visited, lessons or reviews completed) to improve the App;
- receive **crash and error reports** (device model, OS version, stack trace, and the sequence of non-personal events leading to a crash) so we can fix bugs.
Firebase may process a pseudonymous app-instance identifier, device and OS information, and coarse region. We do **not** send your learning progress, the name you enter, or any content you create. Analytics and crash collection are **disabled until consent is resolved** (Section 3) and can be turned off by declining consent. ## 4. Audio and network
- Pronunciation audio is bundled with the App or generated on-device using the Android Text-to-Speech engine; no recording of your voice or microphone is performed.
- The App's only outbound network use is the Google AdMob/UMP and Firebase services described above. The educational content itself works offline.
## 5. Permissions
- **Internet / Network state:** required to load ads (AdMob/UMP). Not used to transmit your learning data.
- **Notifications (Android 13+):** optional, used only to send the daily study reminder you can enable in Settings. You can deny or revoke it at any time.
## 6. Data sharing
We do not sell your data. We do not share the on-device data described in Section 2 with anyone. Ad-related data is handled by Google as described in Section 3.
## 7. Data retention
On-device data persists until you clear the App's data or uninstall the App. Ad-related data retention is governed by Google's policies.
## 8. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (e.g. GDPR in the EEA/UK), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent. Because we do not store your personal data on our own servers, you can exercise deletion directly by clearing the App's data or uninstalling. ## 9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, within the App or store listing.
