If you are a student with learning challenges, or the parent of a student with learning challenges – YOU ARE NOT ALONE. There is help and understanding out there, and the LCC is committed to helping families, teachers and students dealing with learning challenges. Whether your student has an IEP, a 504, or you are just getting started on the journey of finding help for your student, you are welcome
The Learning Challenges Committee of the Los Altos-Mountain View PTA Council is made up of parents, teachers and students in the Mountain View and Los Altos areas. We are committed to getting the best education for students with learning challenges and/or special education needs. We work with the administration of the Mountain View Whisman School District the Los Altos School District and the Mountain View-Los Altos United High School District to achieve and maintain excellent standards for educating children with learning challenges.
We strive to foster communication, share information, and help our children become active and successful participants in our community. As a group, we can better represent our needs and concerns to the administration and the School Boards. We can do more for our kids, like provide additional funding for classroom supplies for special needs, provide information on resources and opportunities throughout the community, and share our stories, challenges, tragedies and triumphs with other parents and teachers who understand.
We welcome all parents, educators, and community members who are interested in our work.

Wellness Wish List 2025
This year we are running our Wellness Wish List - getting sensory tools into classrooms in all 3 Districts. We have teachers and school staff fill out a survey (example HERE), and then we work with local school PTAs to get as many of the items listed into classrooms to help students with learning challenges. We need your help to keep this program running, from donations, to hands to create our Calm Down Kits, sorting out classroom orders, and cars to deliver to schools.
In you are interested in helping - email lccmvla@gmail.com for more info, or look up in Events our Calm Down Kit making sessions.
About Us:
The Mountain View Whisman Special Education PTA (MVWSEPTA for short) was founded in 2010 by a group of parents and teachers of students with a variety of special needs, talents and challenges in the Mountain View Whisman School District, in order to represent those students better.
In 2013 this Special Education PTA reorganized itself as a committee of the Los Altos-Mountain View PTA Council with the goal of reaching out to all students from preschool to high school in the Mountain View Whisman School District and the Mountain View-Los Altos United High School District. The needs of children in the Los Altos School District were already aptly represented by the Los Altos IEPTA.
We seek to make sure the voices of special needs students are heard and that open lines of communications exist between parents, students, teachers and the administration.
Becoming part of the special education community can be confusing and overwhelming, and we seek to help parents and students find their way and discover the strength of community and caring.
