To describe an object in color, we use 的 de to connect the color and the object.
For example, purple grapes= zǐsè 紫色 (purple color) +de +pútao 葡萄 (grapes)
Sometimes, we can shorten the phrase by omitting sè and de, so the phrase will be zǐ pútao 紫葡萄. It is acceptable.

However, kāfēisè 咖啡色 (brown color) cannot be shortened because it will cause confusion with coffee.
