This Privacy Policy describes how Leaflens ("we", "us", "our", or the "App") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Leaflens mobile application on iOS and Android.
By using Leaflens you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
1. WHO WE ARE
App name: Leaflens
2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
2.1 Photos you submit for identification
When you scan a plant, you either take a new photo with your device camera or pick an existing photo from your photo library. That image is sent to our identification service so an AI model can identify the plant species.
2.2 Identification results
Scientific name, common name, family, genus, confidence score, care information, and related metadata generated by the identification service are stored locally on your device in your scan history.
2.3 Local app data
The App stores the following on your device only:
- your scan history (image file, identification results, notes you add, favorite flag, timestamp)
- your settings (haptics, sound, auto-detect, HD scan mode, default scan mode, confidence threshold, theme)
- your selected language
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly share it (for example, by tapping the share button).
2.4 Device information
For diagnostic purposes we may read non-identifying device information such as device model, OS version, and app version. We do not collect advertising identifiers (IDFA / GAID).
2.5 What we do NOT collect
- We do not require you to create an account.
- We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or address unless you voluntarily send them to us through our contact channels.
- We do not collect precise or coarse location data.
- We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
3. HOW WE USE INFORMATION
We use the information described above only to:
- identify the plant in the image you submit;
- return identification results and care information to your device;
- operate, maintain, and improve the App's core features;
- respond to support requests you send to us.
4. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
To deliver AI plant identification, photos you submit are processed by Google's Gemini API (operated by Google LLC). The image and minimal request metadata are transmitted over HTTPS to Google's servers for the sole purpose of producing an identification result.
- Provider: Google LLC
- Service: Gemini API
- Privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- Data processed: the photo you submitted and the resulting identification text
- Retention: governed by Google's API terms; we do not retain copies on our own servers beyond the duration of the request
No other third-party processors are used.
5. DATA RETENTION
Scan history, notes, favorites, and settings stay on your device until you delete them. You can erase all local scan data at any time via Settings → "Erase all scan data". Uninstalling the App also removes all locally stored data.
6. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Leaflens is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
7. SECURITY
Photos are transmitted to the identification service over HTTPS (TLS). Local scan data is stored in your device's app sandbox. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. YOUR RIGHTS
Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/EEA, UK, California, or other jurisdictions with similar laws), you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- request correction or deletion;
- object to or restrict processing;
- withdraw consent;
- lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.
Because Leaflens does not require an account and stores your scan history locally on your device, most of these rights can be exercised by you directly inside the App (for example, by deleting scans or uninstalling the App).
9. INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS
Google processes Gemini API requests on servers that may be located outside your country of residence, including the United States. By using the App you understand that your photos may be transferred to and processed in other jurisdictions.
10. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this document reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be communicated through the App.
