1992 saw some more new members, notably Dave Adkin and Jim Hughes. It was still a year for 'old' stagers to prevail. The Major won Bootle with a nett 66, just pipping Gerry. Angus won Brackenwood again with nett 66, despite Wag shooting a gross 73! Haigh Hall was dominated by Netherton PC members, with Jimmy Banks winning. John Skyner won Arrowe Park narrowly over Ray Davies and Tucker.
Formby Ladies saw an invasion by Telford members, Paul Booth returning for the first time in 10 years and John Breen leading after a morning 39 points. However, the weather was so bad some members preferred to spend their afternoon shopping in Southport! In the end Colin won his first Rosebowl at his first attempt.
Billy won Hoylake and I managed to sneak another Walton Hall outing! At Bidston Gerry shot nett 62 and 67, but was not enough to beat Lee (nett 63 and 66) who claimed back-to-back Bidston 36-hole Strokeplay titles.
At West Derby, playing the Singles final against me did not put off Colin from also winning the Caldy Shield. Colin completed a great day by winning the Doubles with Neil in the afternoon.
The final outing of the season at Ellesmere Port produced some eye-watering scores, particularly the first 2 holes, plus Scraggsy's 15 on the last! Still class shone through and Wag won his first outing with a nett 72.
The 1992 Matheson Trophy included a couple of innovations. For the first time, the Fourballs were played on Thursday at Silloth and Foursomes were introduced for the morning at Penrith. This proved LCS' best session (4.5 points) indicating our favourite event from the outset - Wag and Col won 8&6, Nobby and Biffo won 7&6 and Neil and Bernie won 8&6. All this was topped in the Singles where the Major won his first Singles match (against Tom Muldownie) at the 11th attempt! In the end LCS came a creditable 2nd, 3points behind EK.
