1990 saw a full calendar of 8 outings, plus the Cleek, Mold and Matheson Trophy.
Our best golfer since John Cockcroft joined this year - Paul Waggott off 7 (those were the days, Wag!) A gross 76 at Ellesmere Port only led to a midfield placing! Another member joined, adorned with a ponytail, leading Tucker Smith to remark 'That girl's got a fine swing'. This new member was of course Colin Banks!! Colin took the Society by storm winning Brackenwood, Haigh Hall (nett 64), West Derby (nett 66) and the Singles!
More good scoring saw Smudger win Bootle (nett 65), John Skyner win Arrowe Park (nett 64) and I sneaked the Ellesmere Port outing with a nett 60! At Formby Ladies, Fingers scored 50 points (nett 57) in the morning and Biffo scored 48 points (nett 59), but neither could beat Neil Musson's overall 87 points. With an impressive nett 65, Neil also won Walton Hall.
It wasn't all plain sailing though for John Taylor at Arrowe Park. Playing with Angus Moyes, perhaps he took Angus' mantra to 'Just tw*t the ball' too seriously, scoring a record gross 204 including 23 on the 6th (well there is OOB on the left!!)
Finals Day at West Derby was our only outing to be sponsored - by ROCC Computers, who included a man in a green hat (steady Gerry!!). The afternoon Stab was won with a fine 40 points by Ray Davies. Meanwhile the Doubles final produced a very popular winner - Heather played really well all season and richly deserved this success. I did little in the final before winning the last 3 holes to pip Fingers and Crooky!
The last outing of the season saw a morning Medal and afternoon Stab at Delamere, both won by Jimmy Banks (no relation!) with nett 67 and 42 points. We haven't returned there for an official outing since, perhaps thanks to William Hugh's comments during the meal!!
Back up at Penrith, LCS failed to get a point (again!) in the Doubles and only scored 2.5 points in total - highlight being Colin beating Craig Williamson 7&6!
