1985 saw victories for the 'old guard' - Don Brown at Bootle, JP at Brackenwood and Angus at Arrowe Park. Lee wins his first Rosebowl by 10 shots, follows up by winning Hoylake in a 3-way tie and completes the hat-trick beating Bernie on Back 9 at Southport (was it really tough back then - winning score 76 nett?)
At Formby Ladies, there was a putting comp in the afternoon won with 25 putts by John Orr. Second with 29 putts was Mike Caird! This meant he had a further 110 shots not on the green in his gross 139 (2 Stab points only on the back 9!)
The Matheson Trophy was increased to 12-a-side and EK won by half a point (where have we seen that before?) and LCS came a gallant 3rd! Wingnut made his debut along with Eddie Scraggs, who 'qualified' for the team with Society debut scores of 144 at Brackenwood and 128 at Arrowe Park. He lost in the Singles to mumbling Murray McFarlane!!
