Legionaries of Christ Studying at Notre Dame

Help us Form Ourselves to Form Others

Since August 2020, three Legionaries of Christ are studying at Notre Dame. This year, there are even four of us! Our mission in the future will be to teach in some of our universities and seminaries around the world, bringing Christ into our culture—one student at a time, one class at a time, one book at a time.

We need your help!

"This is great! Where do I donate?" — Right here!

Why We Need Help

If you don't mind reading just a little bit, click here and we'll explain:

Thanks to the generosity of the University of Notre Dame, none of us have to pay tuition. Some of us even receive financial support in the shape of student stipends. As religious with a vow of poverty, we pool and share those resources among between us. That is enough to cover rent, utilities, and part of our health insurance. How do we cover the rest of our expenses (groceries, gas, car insurance, etc.)? Sometimes, our priestly ministry comes with some remuneration (e.g. mass stipends), but that is not enough.

Our program of studies is incredibly intense. Sometimes up to a thousand pages to read in a week, many papers to write, seminars to attend, etc. When all that is done, we have very little time left to do anything else.

In that time, we could pick up a few small jobs to make some extra money and pay for our bills, but that would leave no time at all for priestly ministry.

If you help us make ends meet, we can dedicate that time to do what we most love doing: bringing people to Christ and bringing Christ to people. In other words, your donation enables us to serve as priests, in spiritual directions, confessions, preaching retreats, etc.

This will hopefully benefit many people. But it will also help us preserve sanity... So thanks for that too!

And last, but certainly not least, we need your prayers. We need them as students when we face tiredness and discouragement, we need them as religious consecrated to Christ when we get too much used to the gift of our calling, we need them as priests when the burden of our ministry weighs us down. Only with many prayers can we hope to persevere and be fruitful in our calling!

Meet the Bookworms

This is who we are and what we do (don't worry... very short videos):

What's in it for you?

You win points with Jesus!

"And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward." (Matthew 10:42)

Cup of cold water? Imagine paying the phone bill...!

We hear confessions, we preach, we give spiritual directions, and in the future we will help to form priests who will do those same things. Many people will have you to thank for whatever good we manage to do in serving Christ and his Church.

And finally, we will pray faithfully for your intentions. (If you like, please write them to us: lcatnd@gmail.com)

Still here? Amazing!

You must be very curious... Ok, here is some more info. Last year, we rented a very snug little house in downtown South Bend. We knew from the start that this arrangement was only for a year. With some drama and lots of help from St. Joseph we were able to find a NEW HOUSE for our community (now of four). But moving from a furnished house into an unfurnished house meant starting almost from scratch in terms of furniture. This is what things looked like at the beginning of the summer:

Ok... things obviously look a lot nicer now. We spent a lot of time at thrift stores, yard sales, and on Craigslist and with a small budget we were able to furnish our house. It really feels like home now! However, things do add up and so we had to make a significant DENT in our SAVINGS from last year. With your support, hopefully we can not only make it through the month, but also have a reasonable amount of savings. You never know when you'll have the next big car repair...

Here is what our house looks like now:

And since you are visibly VERY reluctant to go, here are a few more pictures...

Did we mention we would really appreciate your support...? Ok. Just checking.
