Air Quality Monitoring & Health Risk Assessment
This research direction focuses on the advanced monitoring and characterization of emerging atmospheric contaminants to protect public health. We investigate the transport, fate, and composition of hazardous pollutants, with a specific emphasis on microplastics and Persistent Free Radicals (PFRs) in ambient air. In addition, we also apply modern technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and deep learning with microscopy, to automate and enhance the high-throughput analysis of atmospheric microplastics. Beyond outdoor environments, our laboratory conducts rigorous indoor air quality assessments in sensitive settings, such as long-term care facilities, to quantify particulate matter exposure. By linking monitoring data with health risk assessment models, we aim to identify exposure pathways and provide scientific evidence for environmental health policies.
