Robert Weston was born on September 10, 1924. Robert was a lifelong resident of New Jersey, making homes continuously along the Jersey shore. Bob was an outstanding athlete at Long Branch High School, and was inducted into that school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Mr. Weston served in the Army Air Corp during WWII, and was trained as a bombardier on the B-17 Flying Fortress. Bob attended Panzer College of Physical Education and Hygiene (now Montclair State University), and in his early career taught math and physical education. Robert also taught tennis, and lifeguarded at the former Colony Beach club, which is where he met his bride of 69 years, Cynthia Joy Weber.
Tennis was Robert’s passion, and Bob was a ranked amateur tennis player for most of his adult life, including being ranked #1 in the United States Tennis Association Eastern Seaboard Men’s Division for 65 and over. Bob once traveled to Israel to represent the United States in men’s singles and doubles tennis at the Maccabiah games winning a bronze medal.
Mr. West was a biology teacher, guidance counselor and coach at Long Branch High School and Shore Regional High School retiring in 1984. He served our country honorably for 40 years; the US Navy during WWII, and the US Navy Reserves, retiring as Captain in 1983. He was a member of the Military Officers Association of America, the NEA, the NJEA and an "Athletic Hall of Famer" for both Long Branch High School and the College of New Jersey.
