Darlene Tierney Carfi distinguished herself in the sport of bowling. Beginning at the age of five, Darlene had much time to practice and hold her skills before entering Long Branch High School.
As a member of the girls bowling team, Darlene won many awards. Lettering her freshman year, she was the Shore Conference Triple Crown winner and made the All-Star team. Her average for the season was 173, her high game was 230, and her high series was 591.
In the 1991- 82 season Darlene was the lone repeater to the all shore team. In the conference, she received the second highest average of 166, second highest of game 224 and second highest series of 575. The girls team was the first in the division and the second and the shore conference that year. She was also named a member of the Monmouth County junior All-Star bowling league.
Darlene's junior year was also laden with accomplishments such as receiving the All-Shore teams honorable mention. That year the Green Wave bowling team was the Central Division Champions, placed second in sectionals, Shore Conference Champs, and State Champs. In the state competition, Darlene won personal acclaim by bowling the first high game of 214, and the second high series of 563.
In 1983 - 84, Darlene Tierney’s final year, she was named the All-Star Team for the third time, a first for female bowling in Long Branch. Darlene averaged 173, had a high game of 223 and High series of 562. The high school team placed second in the Central Division and took fifth in the Shore Conference. Darlene achieved honors in area other than Sports.
An honor roll student, she earned a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average. She plays flute and Piccolo for the marching and Ensemble band. In 1982 - 83, Ms Tierney was a member of the JV tennis team and the students against drinking and driving (SADD) pilot Task Force program. Darlene went on to participate and many clubs and activities.
In 1988, is she bowled in the Woman's Nationals, Lake Tahoe, Nevada, on the teams doubles and singles events. Darlene Place 582nd out of over 10,000 women in the singles with a 267 game. In 1990, she went to the Nationals which took place in Tampa, Florida and bowled the teams singles and doubles events.
