After the completion of her freshman year at Long Branch High School, Kelly was named Rookie of the Year and was also the high point scorer for the team. Returning for sophomore year, she broke many school records. She placed second in both the 200 and 500 freestyle and the County and Conference Championship Meets. Qualifying to swim the New Jersey State Championship Meet, she placed 13th in the 200-yard freestyle and 23rd in the 500-yard freestyle.
Miss Stone was the MVP for Long Branch that season as well as the high point score. At the start of her junior year, she was named captain of the girls swim team. During this year, she broke an 18 year old school record for the 100 yard butterfly. Competing in both the county and conference championships, she placed second and third in many events.
In the New Jersey state championship meet, she took 13th Place again in the 200 freestyle and placed in the top 24 in the 500 freestyle. That year’s medley relay team also placed in the top 16. She was again the MVP for Long Branch That season as well as the high point scorer.
Returning for her senior year is Captain, she continued to break school records. Upon graduation, she held nine of the eleven record for the Long Branch High School swim team. She made the all-conference second team for three years in high school and continued to swim and place in the top 24 for the New Jersey state swimming championships. She scored over 1,000 points by her junior year in high school and continue to accomplish many goals.
In addition to high school swimming, Kelly swam for the Central Jersey Aquatic Club, which is part of United States Swimming. This team competes all over the state of New Jersey as well as many of the surrounding states. During her years in high school, she competed in the Junior Olympics where she placed in the top 16 numerous times. She qualified and swam in the Eastern Coast Region-1 swimming championships in Syracuse New York.
As a result of her accomplishments, she was asked to participate in the New Jersey Zones Meet of Champions. For this meet, the top two swimmers New Jersey are asked to swim against teams from Maine and Virginia and as far west as Pittsburgh. She placed 10th in the 1000 yard freestyle and 20th in the 200-yard backstroke.
Following High School, Miss Stone competed in college at Catholic University and was named captain of the swim team. She placed in the top five in her events at the conference championships each year. Also at Catholic University, Ms. Stone was all-conference for academic achievement through Athletics for all four years.
