After his parents died, Amedeo lived with the Van Dyke family, this was during his Junior and Senior year at Long Branch High School. Summers he lifeguarded on Long Branch beaches, eventually becoming the head lifeguard. Amedeo V. Ippolito played football, baseball, and track while in Long Branch High School. He became All-State and and scored the famous touchdown in the 1932 game between Long Branch and Asbury Park.

Amedeo went on to college at Temple University where he played End for Pop Warner, and played in the first Sugar Bowl game in 1935. Mr. Ippolito received All-American honorable mention while playing football at Temple. After graduating from Temple University in 1937, Amedeo played semi-pro football in 1938 with the Patterson Panthers.

Amedeo Ippolito Is being recognized for his accomplishments as a coach. His first coaching experience was at Thomas Jefferson and St. Rose in Belmar New Jersey. He began coaching at Long Branch in 1942, replacing head football coach Beatty in 1944. His coaching abilities were not limited to football, he also was an assistant track coach.

Coach Ippolito’s teams’ incredible records speak for themselves. As coaching record of 105-62-9, two unbeaten teams in 1951 and 1961, and Group IV Titles in 1935 and 1956. His coaching career ended Thanksgiving Day, 1963, where the score read Long Branch 26: Red Bank 0. Mr Ippolito’s Contributions were not limited to Athletics, he also taught Spanish and Long Branch High School and served on the Long Branch Council from 1965 - 1970.
