John Beake graduated from Long Branch High School 1957. Following his graduation, he attended Penn State University where he played football under legendary coach, Joe Paterno. He spent eighteen years coaching in the high school and pro ranks. In fact, he was the only general manager in the National Football League to be both an offensive backfield coach and an administrator for the Kansas City Chiefs at the time of their Super Bowl IV victory.
In 1979, the Broncos brought him in to revamp their scouting system, and he has been with them ever since. During his tenure as the Broncos general manager, the team has made four Super Bowl and seven playoff appearances and won five division titles.
This year marks his fourteenth year as General Manager of the Denver Broncos, the longest tenure in team history. This year also saw the Broncos earn a World Championship victory over the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XXXII. This is Beake’s thirtieth year in professional football. His career as an administrator and coach is highlighted by 327 wins on the professional, college and high school levels, a total unmatched by any other NFL administrator.
As general manager, Mr. Beake is responsible for the administration of all football operation functions as they relate to league matters. He is also responsible for NFL coordination and Broncos support to the NFL Europe League. He directs contractual relationships with local radio and television and is in charge of all Bronco-related operations at Mile High Stadium.
