Short Bio
I’m Lazaros (duh), a soon-to-be Doctor in Economics, currently concluding my PhD at City, University of London, with a focus on Game Theory and Experimental & Behavioral Economics. Professionally, I work as a Senior Consultant in Quantitative Credit Risk at EY in London, applying technical and analytical solutions to the evolving world of financial risk.
Born and raised in Thessaloniki (SKG), with proud third-generation roots from Cappadocia, I’ve built my life across disciplines and borders. Beyond my academic and consulting work, I’m a professional musician, lifelong Formula 1 enthusiast, and avid gamer. I spend much of my free time composing music film scores, creating content, and diving deep into audio production and new tech. I'm a big believer in ultra learning and staying ahead through experimentation. The most important things in my life are my cat Frida, my fiancée Lila, my family, and my guitar collection.
Traveling fuels my curiosity and expands my perspective. Life is moments and individual and random events of magic.
As T.S. Eliot once said, ‘The end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.’
In Jan '25, I joined EY as a Senior Consultant in Quantitative Credit Risk. My role involves working on AI-driven models and extraction algorithms, with a strong focus on IFRS 9 procedures, credit risk assessment, and regulatory compliance.
In Mar. 2023, I was appointed as a Quantitative Analyst and Researcher on a prestigious European Research Council (ERC)-funded project for the European Commission. Over the course of 2 years, I contributed to high-impact research at the intersection of economics, data science, and policy, developing advanced quantitative tools and experimental designs to address complex societal challenges. In early 2025, I made the strategic decision to conclude my work with the Commission and transition fully into consulting, bringing this rigorous analytical foundation into the world of financial risk and ML/AI-driven modelling.
In Oct. '22 I joined LSE as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA). What began as a supporting role quickly evolved into a vital and central position - taking on greater responsibilities, such as designing and implementing the pre-sessional core and assessment methods of the MiM program and bridging academia with industry grad schemes, while earning the highest score in the TQARO teaching evaluations and a certificate of excellence. I'm proud to continue teaching at LSE alongside my main consulting role.
In Sep. '22, I joined CITY University London as a PhD candidate in Economics, with a research focus on Applied Game Theory and Experimental & Behavioral Economics. Throughout my doctoral work, I explored strategic interaction under uncertainty, decision-making heuristics, and the design of a quitting game to uncover behavioral regularities. Along the way, I successfully earned the integrated MPhil in Economics with Distinction, achieving the second-highest grade across doctoral cohorts at City, Birkbeck, and Royal Holloway. My research was formally concluded in June '25, and I am scheduled to defend my PhD in Q4 '25. Doctoral Student Profile
In Jun. '22, I obtained my 2nd title of Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Industrial Economics and Quant Finance - with a minor in Energy and Financial Economics, from the University Carlos III of Madrid with a "notable" distinction.
My thesis explored the relationship between the USA's economic activity and the radical conflicts at the state level. It scored first place (dean's list) and was honored. My dissertation was supervised by Jan Stuhler.
In Feb. '19, I successfully graduated from the Master of Science (M.Sc.) program in Economic Analysis and Policy from the University of Ioannina with a focus on big data econometric designs.
My graduate thesis employed an augmented gravity model equation to analyze EU trade flows on the harmonized system of industrial commodities (HS 84-89). My supervisor/co-author Dimitris Dadakas and I published it in JES, 3 years later.
