With education in events management and keen interest in first aid and emergency preparedness, I have been a community first responder and volunteered as a Chief Safety Officer since 2011 for community events of various scales, together with a team of like-minded individuals (medical professionals and laymen first aiders).
The team's involvement in multiple community events has allowed us sufficient exposure to be competent in our skills, forge friendships and professionalise with a common working style. However, out-of-pocket expenses for meals, transport and restocking of supplies (in cases when these are not provided by event organisers) is taking a toll on the team.
As such, Laymen Safety is born to allow us to be in a better position to negotiate for allowance and reimbursement for such purposes and also explore other platforms to subsidise the learning & development (e.g. first aid refresher) of the team.
Using the mindset and thought process of a layman who became concerned about matters of safety due to various reasons, we hope to highlight how safety (or the lack thereof) affects the various profiles of individuals and groups who may be affiliated with you.
