The Los Angeles Workshop on Representations and Geometry

mentored by Tudor Dimofte, Pavel Safronov, and Justin Hilburn

June 12-16 2023, University of Southern California

About

LAWRGe is an annual workshop which brings together graduate students and postdocs interested in representation theory, geometry, and related subjects. Each workshop focuses on a specific topic and is mentored by a group of experts on it.  The workshops take place at the University of Southern California, and are funded by NSF CAREER grant DMS-2143922.

2023 Topic: 3d Mirror Symmetry and 3d TQFT

2d mirror symmetry (or simply "mirror symmetry"), originating in the physics of two-dimensional supersymmetric QFT, has led to some of the most significant developments in algebra and geometry in the past two decades. 3d mirror symmetry is its deep but enigmatic older sibling -- a duality of three-dimensional supersymmetric gauge theories whose mathematical structure is under rapid current development. It is related to such diverse constructions as symplectic duality, Coulomb branches, elliptic stable envelopes, quantum K-theory, and perverse schobers. The goal of this workshop is to tie these mathematical developments together through the lens of 3-dimensional topological quantum field theory.

Application

A primary goal of LAWRGe is to foster collaboration among young researchers with a diverse range of interests and backgrounds. As such, we encourage applications from all institutions and all levels of graduate education and postdoctoral development. Since space is limited, anyone interested in attending must apply on the application page linked above. We can only guarantee that non-local applications received before 3/31/23 will be considered, and earlier applications are encouraged. In reviewing applications, we will be trying to assess how much each applicant would benefit from the workshop. All participants within commuting distance are welcome to attend, though you must still submit an application so that we know to expect you (earlier applications are still encouraged).

Funding

All participant accommodations will be fully funded through NSF CAREER grant DMS-2143922. Accommodations will be limited to students visiting from outside Los Angeles, but local participants are welcome and encouraged to attend (on-site parking permits will be available). There is a limited amount of funding available for participant travel, but we ask that participants able to fully or partially fund their own travel do so. Applicants should describe their funding situation in the application.
