Every Lion, One Book Program Overview
Every Lion, One Book (ELOB) is a school-wide reading event where students, their families, and staff at Laurel Ridge read the same book together at the same time. This program takes place in March and brings LRES families together to build a community of readers and foster a sense of belonging within our school. The reading program concludes with Family Trivia Night at the end of the month.
Every Lion, One Book is a novel program in which children of all grade levels listen to the same book. Strange or daring as that may seem, it actually makes sound educational sense. Reading professionals recommend reading material out loud that is beyond a child’s own reading level. We also believe that you can and should continue reading chapter books with your older children, even when they are able to read by themselves. The Every Lion, One Book committee selects book titles that can be followed and understood and enjoyed by younger students, but will still captivate and stimulate older children. Generally, families are asked to read about 15 minutes each night over the course of a few weeks.
