Laura Sberna

Physics PhD

I'm a theoretical (astro)physicist. In my research, I tackle problems in gravity, astrophysics and cosmology using gravitational wave observations

In the past, I also worked on astroparticle physics and quantum cosmology. I like to work with both theory and data (my CV).

I am a Marie Skłodowska-Curie and Anne McLaren Fellow at the University of Nottingham, UK (since January 2024). I'm in the School of Mathematical Sciences (Gravity group).

Between April 2021 and December 2023, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) in Postdam, Germany, as part of the Astrophysical and Cosmological Relativity group. I was also the Deputy to the institute's Equal Opportunities Officer and chair of the Diversity Committee.

I received my PhD from Perimeter Institute (University of Waterloo) in Canada in January 2021. Before moving to Canada, I got my Master's and Bachelor's degrees in physics at Sapienza University of Rome, in Italy.  During my Master's, I was a member of the Sapienza School for Advanced Studies. Rome is also my hometown, although my family is originally from a very small village in Tuscany.
