Laura Hill Art

NAWA, NYC -AAEH, East Hampton -Sidewalk Alley, Mount Sinai

My name is Laura.

I'm a contemporary artist although some may say I am a jack of all trades. Really, I just like to experiment and explore. Labels are for people who like to be neat and tidy and my life is not that black or white. I live in New York halfway between New York City and the beaches of the Hamptons. I have always lived here but have traveled around the world working with musicians, writing stories for films, creating art and advertisements. (Click the arrow to read more.)

No matter where I go I am drawn back. Maybe it's because New York is such a vibrant city. But if I'm honest with myself I know it's because of the sea. My father's family grew up on an island and so did I. To be at peace I need to be close to the water.

Looking out my window now I can see the rosy fingers of dawn stretching out across the harbor. The waves are washing up on a crescent of sandy beach. Gulls looking for breakfast chase after a feast of clams, oysters and muscles the waves left behind. When they are done the gulls soar overhead, circling and crying out, "Wake up sleepyhead! Don't you know morning has come?" The air smells salty and clean. I feel alive and drawn to the spark of a new day and the adventure that awaits me.

The collection of work you will find on these pages was all taken in and around Port Jeff Harbor. It is part of my Water and Rust Series where I explore hidden places right in your own back yard. This is the first area showing of these images created during quarantine. All are first editions but that won't last for long. I hope you enjoy my artwork and I hope that it brings you the same pleasure it brings me, when you look at it on your walls. -Laura
