A junior varsity football player at Los Osos High School was placed in a chokehold and hit with a belt by two students identified as varsity players in a locker room assault captured on video and circulated on social media.

The video, which was pulled down from Instagram but obtained by the Southern California News Group, shows the 16-year-old boy crying out in anguish while struggling against the chokehold applied by one player. A second player, who is shirtless, then walks over to the bench where the boy is seated and slaps his legs with a belt.

An EA Sports representative confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday that it has contracted with OneTeam Partners to "facilitate collegiate athletes' names and likenesses" into the game, solving one of the major questions about college football's return to the video game space.

The partnership will include the chance for all eligible FBS players to opt in to have their likenesses in EA Sports College Football, the representative said. Those players will receive compensation for being placed in the game.

For participating players, it is possible a face scan of their likenesses could be in the game, the representative said, though not every athlete will receive a face scan because there are thousands of FBS players across the country. The representative said more than 120 FBS schools have committed to being in the game -- along with all 10 FBS conferences and the College Football Playoff -- with the goal remaining to have every FBS school in the game.

When EA Sports announced the return of its college football series in 2021, questions surrounding name, image and likeness were among the biggest it needed to answer. At the time, Notre Dame was among a small number of schools that indicated through statements or news reports that it would not agree to participate until NIL compensation was worked out.

OneTeam, which has partnerships with players' unions, including the NFLPA, MLSPA and USWNT Players Association, has previously worked with EA Sports on the Madden football and FIFA (now EA Sports FC) franchises.

The WIAA sponsored reduced-player football prior to the advent of the football playoff system in 1976. There were 78 schools that fielded reduced-player squads in the late 1950s, 72 of which were eight-player teams and six that were six-player. However, that number dwindled to just a few programs by 1969.

One of the two senior varsity players in the video is the son of a Los Osos administrator, according to Cassondra. She said she plans to press charges against the other senior, an 18-year-old who had her son, a junior, in a chokehold in the video. An email to the administrator was not returned.

However, it is unknown what the punishment was for the other two varsity players involved in the incident. Los Osos (6-4) earned the No. 2 seed in the CIF Southern Section Division 9 playoffs and has a first-round game Friday against South Pasadena (9-1).

The disturbing video depicts white students at River Valley High School "auctioning" off black students as slaves in a football locker room.

When it comes to leading by example, three River Valley High School students and football players who participated in that video spoke up, saying they regret their actions and have learned a hard lesson.

All three of these football players received three-day suspensions. Their parents say they were removed from the football team. The school's varsity season had to be forfeited as a result of all of the suspensions. The team would not have had enough remaining players to continue the season.

We think sports like football, cheer and dance offer so much to a young person, from a fun, physically active lifestyle and a sense of teamwork to valuable life lessons like perseverance and sacrifice. While injury is always a risk in contact sport or athletic activity, Pop Warner has a medical advisory committee of neurosurgeons, sports medicine professionals, pediatricians and researchers that steer athlete safety protocols for football and cheer & dance. In football, we've instituted the nation's most advanced safety measures, including limiting contact to 25% of practice time; eliminating kickoffs and the three-point stance for our youngest divisions; banning full-speed, head-on tackling and blocking drills; and mandating that any player who suffers a suspected head injury receive medical clearance from a medical professional trained in concussion evaluation and management before returning to play. The same rigorous guidance is devoted to cheer & dance, as well. In addition, all Pop Warner coaches are required to get appropriate and relevant training and certifications each season. ff782bc1db
