Billing + Financial Aid
OFFICIAL PROGRAM BUDGET/WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR BILL
OFFICIAL PROGRAM BUDGET (SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS FINANCIAL AID BUDGET)
Application Phase
A copy of the Unofficial Program Budget is available in the Cost & Scholarships section of each study abroad program brochure.
The first and third boxes of the budget sheet (Fees billed by Study Abroad Office, Tuition and Fees billed by University of Illinois) will be billed to your student account.
The second box (Non-Billables or Budgetary items for consideration, but will NOT be billed to your student account) includes estimates of out-of-pocket expenses you may incur while abroad, and may vary depending on your personal spending habits.
Review budgets carefully and speak to an advisor in LAS International Programs or OSFA about any concerns.
Acceptance & Commitment Phase
After acceptance, a copy of the budget will be uploaded to your My Study Abroad account.
The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) will use the Official Program Budget to create your study abroad financial aid package.
Review budgets carefully before committing to the program and speak to an advisor in LAS International Programs or OSFA about any concerns.
Once you commit, you may be liable for the program costs.
Email LAS International Programs if you want to withdraw from your program and make sure you have read and understand the withdrawal policy as there will be non-refundable fees.
BILLING DATES
LAS and campus billable tuition and fees will be billed to your student accounts shortly before the start of each term. Study Abroad fees are payment plan eligible. Learn more about Payment Due Dates or contact USFSCO.

FINANCIAL AID
During the Fall or Spring terms, students must take the equivalent of 12 Illinois credit hours in order to be eligible for Financial Aid.
If studying abroad during the Summer term, undergrad students must obtain 6 or more credits to be eligible for financial aid.
Bring your unofficial or official budget sheet to the Office of Student Financial Aid for an explanation of what financial aid covers.

OPTING OUT OF HEALTH INSURANCE
You still pay for regular student health insurance while you're abroad, which costs 544. This is included in Illinois Range IV Tuition and Fees, Base Rate. If you already have better health insurance this fee of 544 can be waived. However, the International Insurance & Safety Fee of 200 is mandatory for all students whether they have opted out of regular student health insurance or not. If you are planning to opt out of regular student health insurance you must do so at the beginning of the Fall semester.

WITHDRAWAL INFORMATION
WITHDRAWAL POLICY
Students must officially notify LAS International Programs, as well as their home college study abroad office, in writing by email, of withdrawal from a program. It is not sufficient to withdraw an application online.
University of Illinois students must withdraw from the study abroad registration or course in UI-Integrate, notify their college, and notify their study abroad program provider or host institution (if applicable). If the Illinois course-drop deadline has passed, students must contact their College office to drop the study abroad registration. The LAS International Programs Office cannot do this.
Students who withdraw from a study abroad program and do not return to the University of Illinois for that term must contact their College office and follow the established procedures pertinent to their situation so that they will be allowed to register for the following term.
REFUND POLICY
Whether a student withdraws themself or is withdrawn by LASIP staff, the date LASIP receives/sends notification of withdrawal is the date by which any refund will be calculated (regardless of the date the online application is withdrawn). Depending on the situation, there may be a balance due at the time of withdrawal. Those charges will be billed to your student account and must be paid to the University of Illinois according to established policies.
WITHDRAWAL PRIOR TO DEPARTURE
Students who withdraw or are withdrawn from the program up to the day before the advertised start date of the program will pay:
•Non-refundable $350 Withdrawal Fee;
•Any non-refundable portion of airfare;
•Any non-refundable in-country payments made on behalf of the student.
WITHDRAWAL AFTER STARTING THE PROGRAM
No refunds of any kind will be made once students arrive at the program site and begin the program. The only exception is extremely serious and verifiable health matters. In that case, any recoverable costs will be refunded.
Under no circumstances will a refund be considered for students who complete the program.
