Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Berkeley
I am an evolutionary and computational biologist and a Chancellor's Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of California, Berkeley. I am interested in the origins of genome architecture, the mechanisms that drive genomic structural variation, and the implications of transposable elements (TEs) in disease, aging, regeneration and infection tolerance.
My work is supported by a University of California Chancellor's Postdoctoral Fellowship. I am a member of the Sudmant Lab, where I'm developing computational pipelines and leveraging state-of-the-art long-read approaches to identify the molecular and evolutionary processes shaping de novo transposable element insertions, as well as the functional roles of transposable elements in innate immune adaptation.
My scientific career started when I began conducting research as an undergraduate in Russell Corbett-Detig's Lab at UC Santa Cruz, where I developed computational pipelines to identify intron-generating transposable elements (TEs) across diverse eukaryotes. I received my PhD in 2025 from the Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University. During my dissertation in the Hoekstra Lab, I investigated the implications of host-TE genetic conflict on genome structure, the molecular origins and implications of karyotype-altering chromosomal inversions, and the utility of pangenome graphs for studying structural variation in natural mammalian populations. Throughout my undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral career I have also established many of my own collaborations. As a result, I have contributed to 23 publications spanning diverse fields.
My ultimate career goal is to establish my own research program at a University of California campus.
