PFC Juan Llorente, 18-years-old, was found dead in his tent by his unit’s Corpsman. Corpsman [name redacted] claimed that Llorente had come to him earlier in the month, complaining about headaches and odd vision problems. Corpsman [name redact ed] claims that he felt Llorente was malingering, because his Commanding Officer could not, or would not, admit to Llorente having directly taken an IED blast to his head and neck in the weeks prior. Llorente had never been to the Corpsman before, and his record shows that he had never had any known or unknown medical problems since joining his unit.
A bottle of Oxycontin had been stolen from the Infirmary about two month’s prior. It was believed that several soldiers were self-medicating themselves daily with the pilfered pills. The serial number on the empty bottle found next to Llorente’s body matched the one that had been missing.
Cause of death: Accidental death via overdose of an unprescribed narcotic.
Recommendation: Honorable discharge in full military regalia. Body will be sent home to his mother, Sabrina Llorente. Must send a Notification Officer to tell the mother about her son’s death, in person. DOD notes that she is his only living relative.
