You are now on a working farm surrounded by mountains. It is not uncommon to encounter snakes. Please beware that they can harm you if they feel threatened.
In case of emergency, view our list of emergency contacts.
Snake precautions
Immediately seek medical advice if you are bitten by a snake. Not all snake bites are venomous, but a venomous bite can be fatal.
DO NOT provoke a snake. Snakes are shy and will not approach you unless provoked.
If you encounter a snake inside the tent, make sure all guests leave the tent immediately. If possible, close the tent panels and contact your host immediately. A snake handler will be contacted to safely remove the snake.
Bee stings
If you are allergic to bees, or experience any of the following symptoms, visit the nearest hospital immediately.
Feeling of uneasiness, tingling sensations, and dizziness
Generalised itching
Swelling of the lips and tongue
Wheezing and difficulty breathing
Collapse and loss of consciousness
We advise using the EskomSePush App for the latest loadshedding schedule. This can be downloaded from the App Store (https://sepush.co.za/)
The Valley Bungalows on Hemel 'n Aarde Stud farm is located in the Overberg district. Search for Hemel & Aarde(3), Western Cape to stay up to date with scheduled outages.
Our geysers are gas operated and will keep you warm during loadshedding.
Running water is not affected during loadshedding.
Gas stoves need to be lit with a match or lighter during loadshedding.
Our staff will come and collect waste. You can put all your waste in the trash bags next to your tent. We ask that you do not litter or leave items on the property.
Kindly note that all Valley Bungalows' toilets work with a septic tank system and therefore, cannot handle anything other than natural waste. Please dispose of sanitary products, nappies, wet wipes and ear buds in the bins provided in each bathroom. Thank you for your cooperation in this regard.
If you notice any strong odours coming from the septic system, please call the manager contacts .
Water on the farm runs straight off the mountain, with no unnatural additions. You will note discolouration in the farm's water. It has been analysed and is safe for drinking. If you prefer clear water for drinking, there is bottled water provided. Discolouration in the water does discolour the toilet bowl and tile grout, although we do our best to combat this.
In the unlikely event that there is no water supply in your accommodation it is possible that a pipe has burst, or a pipe/water filter is blocked. Please let us know immediately if this is the case, so we can rectify the problem in the shortest time possible. The same applies to power failures.
Kindly drive slowly through the farm. Speed limit on the gravel road is 20 km/h and in the camps 10 km/h. Watch out for farm animals, mountain bikers and children.
According to South African regulations, drones may not be flown within 50 metres of people or private property without permission from the property owner. It is very important that guests check with the owners before flying drones as there is an airstrip on the farm. The flying of drones is permitted strictly by prior arrangement, subject to approval.
No music or excessive noise are allowed at any of our camps, unless you have booked the entire property to host a function. Please consider your fellow guests and quiet down at 22h00.
Only make fires in the designated areas and practice extreme caution. Please ensure that braai fires are put out before leaving the area. Please do not throw cigarettes and matches on the ground – apart from littering, this can start a raging fire in the heat of summer. No fireworks or flares are allowed.
Children must be supervised by adults on our property. The farm has open bodies of water which can be dangerous for young kids.
Hemel & Aarde Stud is a working breeding farm. Please stay clear of farm equipment.
Please remember that all AfriCamps units and locations are self-catering. That means we expect a few things from guests before check-out. Please note, a cleaning fee of R250 may be charged if the tents are left in improper condition.
Before you leave:
