Five years ago, I started to put together a rib cook off, I really enjoy getting people and food together. I had 7 contestants together for my cook off which took place at the Hideaway on Okauchee Lake. It was a big success. Later that year I put together the Cluck Off, this time, as the name suggests it was a chicken cook off, another big success. Both of these events brought in a great deal of spectators and business for the Hideaway.

2014 my event almost doubled in competitors, 13. Another great success.

No contest in 2015 due to scheduling reasons.

We decided to incorperate a local charity for my 4th event, 12 contestants competed. This year all proceeds from raffles went to the Lake Area Free Clinic, We were able to donate $1000 to the Lake Area Free Clinic.

All four of these cook offs I used local dignitaries as my judges.

My next cook off will be June11th at the Okauchee Lions Park. Now the big boys can pull in with their big rigs. Bar parking lots limited who would/couldn’t compete in my cook offs. Time to get bigger and better.

So I contacted the Kansas City BBQ Society about doing one of there competitions.

I decided to go with the Back Yard BBQ (chicken & ribs) for my first adventure with them to get my feet wet.

They have specific rules for their events and you get national exposure on their website.

Certified judges will be used.

We will have multiple raffles through out the day with proceeds going to the Okauchee Lions Club and The lake Area Free Clinic.
